Halloween is just under a week away. If you haven’t decided on a costume yet, you still have time to design and plan one. For inspiration here are 5 easy last-minute DIY Halloween costumes you can make this year:

1. A Toilet Roll Mummy!
We have made this costume just for fun a few times in the past- it makes a good Halloween party activity too! At its simplest just grab a couple of toilet rolls (make sure you have plenty left at home obviously! Hee hee!) and wrap them around the trick-or-treater until they look mummified. Leave a gap for them to see and breathe. Read Lucky Super Di’s Homemade Halloween Toilet Roll Mummy tutorial for more advice.

2. An Easy Witch’s Costume
Dressing up as a witch has always been one of my favourite costumes and it’s also one of the easiest. Sometimes, you have the clothes already to wear. I always have black dresses and many households will already have a witch’s hat and broom from previous years. Fear not if you’re starting out new. You can always use paper, card and black bin bags to make a traditional witch’s costume. Make a black tunic out of the bin bag for the dress, cover this with a home made black binbag witches cape. Red Ted Art has a lovely tutorial for a Witch’s binbag tutu skirt and a paper witch’s hat.

3. Witch’s Cat Costume
Another easy costume to make is a witch’s black cat costume. Take a look through your clothes at home- do you have a black leotard, swim costume, t-shirt, leggings, tights and headband? Basically, make a base costume out of as many of the black clothes you own. If you don’t have a plain black t-shirt, turn a print one inside out. You could put on cat face paint (use a black eye pencil if you don’t have any), add paper cat’s ears to a headband and make a tail using scrunched up old paper in an old tight’s leg or black football/overknee sock. Make a black binbag tutu to finish it off! Take a look at these DIY Cat Costumes ideas for more inspiration.

4. Easy Skeleton Halloween Costume
So, if you have black basics like black t-shirts, tops and leggings, they really do make a great base for many Halloween costumes. One is making a skeleton costume. We did this with the kids once when we ran a Halloween activity day- it was great fun. There are a couple of ways you can add the skeleton bones to your black outfit base. Red Ted Art has got a last minute tutorial and skeleton template to help you add the bones using paper. You could also add the bones using heat transfer vinyl, duck tape or white paint (glow in the dark fabric paint would be amazing!).

5. An Easy Zombie Costume
My kids have been zombies so many times over the years as it’s very easy to do and a great way to use up old ripped and stained play clothes. You can be just a zombie or zombie anything you want to, for example “Zombie Ballerina”, “Zombie Footballer” or “Zombie Baseball Player“. Cut or tear your clothes and stain them using red food dye, charcoal, old make up or dirt. Use face paints to create a zombie face or use old eyeshadows and bronzer. Make your hair messy and dishevelled or spike up with gel.
More Easy DIY Halloween Costumes
If you have an old sheet you could also make a DIY Halloween Ghost Costume, an old prom dress or nightdress covered in fake blood or red food dye would create the Halloween look of Carrie and using a white school shirt, bin bag cape and some face paint or make up could create an easy Vampire Costume.
What are your favourite go to Halloween costume creations? Will you or your kids be dressing up this year? What will you be dressing up as?

Morticia Costume (use any black dress and add strips of bin bag for the arms and lower skirt)
Great list of easy Halloween costumes! I definitely can very easily dress as a witch for Halloween in a pinch. I also have a headband I made one years to be a characters from The Sims, which is super easy because you can just wear normal clothes with it.

Yes, I love outfits where you can wear normal clothes lol xxx
The simple roll of toilet paper really does come in very handy! That little witches outfit is also super clever.

fabulous ideas. I remember going to a kid’s party once where one of the games was too see who could mummify their partner (with toilet rolls of course) the quickest. The kids had so much fun and they looked great.

Yes, it’s a great game too. Although I was picked at a big party to be mummified by my kids with toilet rolls and felt so embarrassed haha. I’d be happy if it was at a family and friends party xxx
