As it’s very nearly Halloween, I thought I’d share with you my Rocky Horror Magenta inspired make up look, using Rimmel make up products which can all be found at your local Boots. This look is very versatile and can also be used for many Halloween looks.
As most of you know, I am a huge Rocky Horror fan. I love to see the Live Theatre Shows, attend Picture Show Sing-a-Longs and have Rocky Horror themed nights and parties. I love dressing up, taking part and the wonderful atmosphere at every Rocky Horror event. The crowd are always fun, open minded and a little bit naughty, plus we all get to do The Time Warp together which for me can never be a bad thing.
The Shop
Currently, my make up bag is in crisis and everything needs replacing (thanks for that kids!). Therefore I had to pick up some new pieces for my Magenta Make Up look. Luckily, you don’t need too many different products to recreate this look and you will get good use out of all of the products again.
We headed to our local Boots store. The make up section was near the front of the store and we soon found the Rimmel section which I knew had everything I needed and all in great colours and at good prices.
The Products
Pictured above is everything I used to recreate the Magenta look (bar an old blusher which was so empty I chucked it before taking the photo!).
I used:
- White face paint (buy a good quality one, it will last you ages and can be used for so many Halloween looks)
- Rimmel Soft Kohl Kajal Eye Liner Pencil in Jet Black
- Rimmel Glam’Eyes Quad Eyeshadow in 021 State of Grace (I used the purple shade)
- Rimmel London Glam’Eyes HD 5-Colour Eyeshadow in Golden Eye (I used the darkest shade) (You could alternatively buy Rimmel Beauty Spells Quad in place of the two above eyeshadows)
- Scandaleyes Retro Glam Extreme Black Mascara
- Exaggerate Full Colour lip Liner in Obsession (however I would recommend Red Diva)
- Lasting Finish Lip Stick by Kate Moss (I used my handbag favourite shade 30 but would recommend shade 1 for this look)
- Provocalips 16hr Kiss Proof Lip Colour in Play with Fire but Kiss me You Fool is a good shade too).
Rocky Horror Magenta Make Up Tutorial
I applied white face paint with a sponge and then blended it using a foundation brush. I only applied one layer as I wanted a pale look rather than a clown face.
Draw on black eyebrows using eyeliner. Extend them slightly further than your own eyebrows. Blend using an eyebrow brush or fingers.
Use an eyeshadow brush to apply Purple Eyeshadow all over the eyelid. Extend this into the crease of the eye and up to the brow bone in a half moon shape. Leave a gap between the eyeshadow and the eyebrows.
Apply black or brown eyeshadow all over the eyelids and in the crease.
Line all the way around the eyes (even in the corners) using Khol Eyeliner.
Apply mascara. I can’t use false eyelashes, they really irritate me, so I use a false eyelash effect mascara. Rimmel Scandaleyes Retro Glam Mascara in Extreme Black is great for this. Apply two coats, allowing it to dry inbetween. Comb eyelashes with an eyelash comb.
Line and fill lips with a red lip liner pencil. Apply red lipstick, blot and powder and reapply.
Use a red lip stain, such as Rimmel Provocolips. Once dry use the clear stain to set the colour and make sure your red lips last all Halloween night.
For Magenta hair in the past I have slept in plaits and then frizzed my hair out the next day, or I have crimped it and frizzed it out, other times I have worn a wig, which I again (you’ve guessed it!) frizzed out.
If you are short on time, you can just back comb your hair all over and scrunch it up messily for a Goth French Maid effect. I love Halloween hair- basically the messier the better!
I also applied a little bit of blusher to create more shape on my otherwise white all over face and a little highlighter at the top of my purple eyeshadow to exaggerate it.
I did my nails using one layer of Black Cherries (far left) on top of a layer of Black Cab (far right). This made a very wearable Goth shade, but I love all the colours pictured for Magenta or general Halloween. Rimmel Glitter Bombs would make amazing nail polish for anyone recreating a Columbia look.
There are great magenta costumes online but as long as you have a little black dress, you can find french maid accessory kits in your local fancy dress shop, add some stockings and suspenders (ooh la la!) and you’re done!
Have a great night and always remember my favourite quote from Rocky Horror:
“Don’t dream it, be it!”
