Happy October…which means Happy Blogtober! Yay!
Yes, I’ve decided to give Blogtober a go again this year. I’m not putting too much pressure on myself to post every single day, but I love the idea of writing more regularly throughout October and making the most of all the lovely autumn content I always want to share at this time of year. I love also taking the time for myself to read through everyone else’s posts- it’s such a treat and brings me back to the “good old blogging days”.
In our Blogtober 2026 group, we do have some suggested prompts but I’ll mainly be following my own ones- anything October, Autumn or Halloween themed I expect! For Blogtober Day 1, I thought I’d start with a simple October wishlist to help me plan for the month ahead. Read on to find out what I’m hoping to do this October:

Go pumpkin picking
Pumpkin picking is definitely one of my favourite autumn traditions.
I’d love to visit at least one pumpkin patch in Pembrokeshire this October, take lots of photos and choose a few pumpkins to bring home for Halloween. The teens/young adults still enjoy carving them. I’m happy to just enjoy seeing their finished creations these days after so many years of helping them carve them.
I will look out for Pembrokeshire Pumpkin Trails too.

Enjoy lots of autumn walks
October is such a beautiful month for walking. I want woodland walks with crunchy leaves (they’ve been crunchy for a while this year, haven’t they?), coastal walks on those clear crisp days, and plenty of adventures with Ozzy. He does look a bit camouflaged in the light brown autumn leaves though!
Have a cosy café trip
A walk followed by coffee and cake somewhere cosy sounds pretty perfect to me. To save money, I don’t drink or eat out often, but it will be nice to treat ourselves to an autumn themed drink and cake. If anyone can suggest an independent cafe in Pembrokeshire offering vegan autumn treats please let me know, otherwise it will be our tried and tested Costa.
Visit a spooky event
There are always lots of Halloween events around Pembrokeshire during October and half term. I’d love to visit at least one spooky attraction or evening event this year. I have to research them soon for my post so that will help us decide!
Do some autumn baking
As soon as the weather gets cooler, I start wanting to bake again. Izzy really wants to buy some spooky cake decorations; she gets excited when she sees them in the shops, so that will be another treat for us!
Go on a proper autumn woodland walk with Ozzy
I know I’ve aready mentioned walking but I walk four times a day sometimes so there will be lots of them. Ozzy loves exploring, so I’d really like to find a new to us woodland walk where we can enjoy all the autumn colours together. Hopefully with plenty of leaves to crunch through and lots of opportunities for autumn photos.
Decorate for Halloween
I don’t want to go completely overboard, but I definitely want some pumpkins, bunting, candles and a few spooky touches around the house.
I also still love the idea of doing a fun Halloween family photo this year, we haven’t done a ghost sheet family photo yet- will this year be the year? We may not be able to get the whole family involved due to logistics but we’ll try to include as many as we can.
Have a Halloween film night
Blankets, snacks, low lights and something spooky on the television. Perfect after those dark, rainy dog walks.
It doesn’t even have to be properly scary with the fmaily, although Dave and I love watching horror together. I’m quite happy with cosy Halloween films too- we love Hocus Pocus. I still need to see Practical Magic 2 in the cinema too. It’s getting harder to have the “spare” money for cinema tickets at the moment, but I really love watching films on the big screen.
Watch a sunrise or sunset
One of the things I want to keep doing more of is making time for simple moments.
I’d love to watch at least one beautiful October sunrise or sunset with a hot chocolate, preferably somewhere along the Pembrokeshire coast. The good thing about having less sunlight in October is you don’t have to get up so early to see the sunrise and can watch the sunset earlier (I really love long summer days too though. I’m so grateful we get to experience all the seasons. I think life is happier when you embrace the season you’re in).
Go to the theatre
I’ve really enjoyed seeing more local theatre lately and I’d love that to continue into October. I’m looking forward to the Torch Theatre Autumn Production next week- The Hound of the Baskervilles.
There’s something lovely about heading to the theatre on a dark autumn evening.
Read a Spooky or Witch Themed Book
I love a good spooky book with a dark cover at this time of year (yes, I am guilty of choosing a book by it’s cover). If anyone has any suggestions of real witch inspired books around the witch trials please let me know as I’m running out of new ones to read.
Keep working on the house
Maybe not the most exciting wish on the list, but I really want to keep decluttering and gradually making the house feel calmer. It’s also handy to sell as much as I can for extra money for Christmas, which will come around soon, Even clearing one corner or finishing one little job makes a difference.
Shop My Wardrobe for Autumn Clothes
To save money and help the environment I need to shop my wardrobe and maybe even attend a clothes swap to get my autumn wardrobe ready. This basically just means adding a nice chunky cardi to all my dresses to be honest but it will be nice to bring the autumn colours to the front of my wardrobe again.
Celebrate Halloween!
At the end of the month we will be celebrating Halloween (this year it falls on a Saturday)! Dave has a gig so we will really miss him on the night, especially as he’s the best face painter. We will do our usual seeing family and then a little Halloween celebration.
Rocktober
Speaking of gigs, although we can’t make Dave’s Halloween Gig (it’s not local to us), October is a busy gigging month for Trunkshot so we will definitely be going to a few local gigs- I can’t wait.
October Birthdays
We also have lots of birthdays to celebrate this month, including, Rebecca, Uncle Gary, Ceri and Gran. We’re also planning a family party for all the big birthdays we’ve had this week- there “terrible twins” Cerys and Caitlyn turned 18 and Ceri will be the big 40. For less than two years, us three sisters will be in the same decade!
Celebrity Traitors
I will also be watching Celebrity Traitors which starts tonight (1st October) – I loved the last series so much! Will you be watching?
Make the most of October
More than anything, I just want to enjoy the month rather than rushing through it. Of course there will be working hard, school, college, hospital appointments, leanring to drive and everyday life, But, I want autumn walks, cosy food, family time, photographs, little adventures and plenty of ordinary days that end up becoming lovely memories. And hopefully Blogtober will encourage me to document some of them along the way.
Are you doing Blogtober this year? And what’s on your October wishlist?
