Today, I’m writing about my recent meal and drinks down at Milford Marina with Mum and Jo. It’s Day 17 of Blogtober 2022 and today’s prompt is favourite drinks. I thought this would be a good time to share this lovely evening as I enjoyed one of my new favourite drinks at the end of the evening. Can you guess what it is? Read on to see if you are right:

Meal at Martha’s Vineyard, Milford Marina
First, we went for a meal at Martha’s Vineyard. We used to come here every Friday to meet Dave for a drink after work- those were the days! Then we had more kids, and they all got older! Nowadays, I take Caitlyn to County football training every week instead! For this night, her amazing coach gave her a lift to and from training so I could go out with Mum and Jo (thank you!).
It was a difficult weekend for us as it marked the anniversary of our losing our dad (and husband in mum’s case). So it was nice to get out of the house and to be together at this time (we missed Ceri, in Newport, of course).

Vegan Burger at Martha’s Vineyard, Milford Marina
On their new autumn and winter dinner menu, the vegan main choices are Roasted Winter Squash Risotto or Beyond Meat with smoked vegan cheese, beer-braised onions, baby gem, tomato, chips, onion rings and coleslaw. During our visit, the vegan burger was falafel. I’m not the biggest fan of falafel but the burger, onion rings and chips were very tasty. Jo had the same and agreed. To drink we had a bottle of prosecco to share as usual.

The service was great and we had a lovely time. Cheers everyone!

After our meal and drink, we enjoyed the view of Milford Marina at night. It will be even prettier in a few weeks when boat owners start putting up twinkly Christmas lights.

Drinks at Ty Milford Waterfront
Next, we went for drinks at the “new hotel” (I wonder how long we’ll keep calling it that?). It was Jo’s first time and mum hadn’t been there since she came to the sneak preview with me (you can see our sneak peek of Ty Milford Waterfront here). Dave and I stayed at Ty Milford Waterfront in July.

So, it was nice to be at Ty Milford Waterfront again. We had a warm welcome here and love the warm ambience of the glowing lights on the table. Of course, I had to show mum and Jo how the colours change, but when I did this, I couldn’t get the light back to the original colour! Oops!

Here we enjoyed more prosecco and lots of laughs together.

Gin at Ty Milford Waterfront
Lastly, for our night cap, we had something a little bit stronger. Jo and mum enjoyed a gin.

I can’t remember exactly which gin drinks they had now but they looked very refreshing.

Barti and Ginger Beer
I would usually have had a gin too but something different on the drinks menu caught my eye- Barti Spiced Rum! This is a spiced spirit drink with Caribbean rum, infused with Pembrokeshire seaweed. As you’ve probably already guessed, it’s named after Barti Ddu, Pembrokeshire’s own pirate. Dave enjoys it and has a couple of bottles, gifted by customers, down at work and at home. I remember at one of his works dos we all enjoyed it with ice and a slice (of orange). Then during the lockdown, I’d bought Dave some for his birthday. As he wasn’t living with us at the time (to keep Danny safe while he was shielding) we sat out in the garden at a distance from each other both drinking Barti and Ginger Beer over ice. I really enjoyed it but haven’t thought of drinking it since.

One of My new Favourite Drinks
So, I’ll say that Barti Spiced Rum with Ginger Beer is one of my new favourite alcoholic drinks! Obviously, I won’t be drinking it daily- as sadly, I’m a driving, working mum, not a pirate! But I’ll definitely treat myself to this drink now and again, especially during autumn and winter- the spices and ginger make it a very warming drink! Perhaps, when the weather really cools, I’ll have it warmed as a hot toddy but we’ll see as I’m not keen on hot alcoholic drinks (I can’t stand mulled wine! Bah humbug!).

About Barti Spiced Rum
“Spiced spirit drink with Caribbean rum, infused with Pembrokeshire seaweed.
Barti Spiced Rum is our prized, most treasured creation. We wanted to make a drink more smooth, more full of flavour and more memorable than any other. Quite simply to create the best spiced rum in the world.
It took a year to perfect the balance between vibrant vanilla, clove, cinnamon and sweet citrus. Then came the infusion of wild hand-picked laver seaweed from the Pembrokeshire coast introducing umami undertones which soften and enhance the taste. All of the elements are married together within the finest, most expertly made Caribbean rum, to create an undeniably smooth yet perfectly punchy drink suitable for sipping or mixing.
We believe we have a drink so flavourful when mixed, and so pure and sippable when neat, that when you try it for the first time it feels like you’ve found the one.
At 35% ABV, Barti is about as mellow as a Sunday morning. Suitable for vegans. Enjoy.”
