Now we’re deep into autumn and heading into winter, we can expect many rainy days in the UK. Generally, we just keep going out whatever the weather. However, I’m looking forward to spending a couple of rainy-day Sunday afternoons at home this year. Here are 5 rainy-day activities I’m looking forward to:
Five Rainy-Day Activities I’m Looking Forward To
1. Reading
I’m already trying to read more this autumn. I’m fitting in snatched moments wherever I can but I long for a long afternoon sitting on the settee or lying on the bed absorbed in a book. I love it when you can read a whole book on the same day, it flows so much better. I expect I’ll drink endless cups of tea too- perfect!
2. Play Board and Card Games
When I was younger we would spend hours playing card and board games on a rainy day at home or in the caravan. Nowadays, I feel guilty that I don’t spend so much time doing this with my kids. It’s a big treat for them, and one of the many things they enjoyed about Covid lockdowns, so I hope we have a few rainy-day board game afternoons.
3. Do a Jigsaw
We also love doing jigsaws when we have the time. I wish we had more spare surface space so we had room to leave a jig-saw out but with six of us squeezed into a small house, we don’t. However, I do have a roll mat now so we can take our incomplete jigsaw out on weekends. Again, Isabelle especially loved doing jigsaws together during lockdowns. Danny wouldn’t choose to do one, but even he can’t resist if one is out, coming and having a look to see if he can place a few pieces!
4. Get Crafty
At the moment, the only craft I see to get to do is if somebody needs something such as an outfit for school or help with a school project etc. I can’t wait for a rainy day to sit and knit for myself or finish one of my many cross-stitch WIPs.
5. Bake
Baking on a rainy day (Sundays especially) is good for the soul. Plus you get a delicious cake or treats to enjoy after! I’m looking forward to making carrot, lemon or coconut cake as I’ve not made them in ages but love them!
What are your favourite rainy-day activities? It goes without saying that I love splashing in puddles too!
This post is part of Blogtober 2022 – Day 19.

I do love a rainy day, especially is we are all home and can cosy up in front of the TV watching a film. What lovely ideas. We love to bake, it warms the house up and you have yummy treats to enjoy after. x
