Now, I’m not saying there is anything wrong with being a lycra-clad gym bunny if that is your jam! However, not all of us feel comfortable or even are interested in spending our precious hours in a communal space, jam-packed full of sweaty strangers. The good news, however, is that you can totally keep fit without having to make a massive effort to attend the gym every day. In fact, sometimes you can work some exercise into your day without even really noticing at all. Read on to find out more.
Get and walk a dog
Dogs aren’t just wonderful companions and family pets, they also encourage people to get out and about in their neighbourhood and stay active. In fact, if you are looking for a way to include regular physical exercise into your daily life, walking a dog up to three times a day may be the perfect solution.
Although you must choose the right type of dog for yours and your family’s needs here. After all, the best-suited dog breeds for seniors are likely to be quick different for a young and active family of hiking enthusiasts. Also, do not forget that there are also other things to consider before you welcome one into your family. Such as whether you can offer them a loving home, and whether you can afford their upkeep and vets bills.
Use a desk bike
I think one of the sneakiest and best ways of staying active without having to think about it too much is to invest in an under desk bike. The good news is that they aren’t costly and you don’t have to use them just under your desk either.
In fact, why not bring them downstairs and pedal away while your favourite show is on, or while you play a computer game? After all, if your brain is occupied by these entertainments, you can forget altogether that you are doing a workout!
Do some gardening
Have you ever woken up on a Monday morning stiff as a board, because of all the gardening you did over the weekend? Well, this just shows how much of an impact pottering about in the garden can have.
In fact, a lot of garden work involves the whole body because it consists of bending, when digging, plating or wedding, and using your arms as well. Especially if you need to dig holes in which to plant trees, or use clippers to tidy up your hedges.
With that in mind, if you are looking for a good workout where the focus isn’t on doing grapevines and box steps, heading out into the garden is a great idea. With the bonus that you get sunlight and fresh air into the bargain.
In fact, you could get so engrossed in what you are doing you might even forget that you are working out. Although, a nice hot bath after you’re done will be in order unless you want to feel the full force of any ache and pains the next day!
