Traditional Pembrokeshire Seaside Days Out
Sometimes the simplest days become the most memorable, and Pembrokeshire is full of traditional seaside towns perfect for summer adventures. I will suggest a couple to start you off, but search this blog for more beaches, and it’s fun finding smaller coves while on your adventures (while keeping an eye on the tide, of course!):
Tenby
Tenby is always one of the most popular places to visit during the summer holidays with its colourful harbour, beaches, cafés, arcades and boat trips.
Families can enjoy:
- Tenby North Beach
- Harbour Beach
- Castle Beach
- South Beach
- boat trips to Caldey Island (locals can enjoy a half-price family day on Sunday 26th July)
- fish and chips on the beach
- ice cream stops
- Tudor Merchant’s House
- Visiting the Lifeboat Station
- coastal walks around Castle Hill
- Take the Explore Tenby & Saundersfoot Open Top Bus
- Explore St Catherine’s Island – weather and tide dependent

Saundersfoot
Saundersfoot is another classic Pembrokeshire seaside day out with a lovely sandy beach, harbour walks and family-friendly cafés.
July and August are warm enough for beach days, crabbing off the harbour, and evening walks along the coast path. We enjoy the tunnel walks, a pasty or chips on the beach and spending time in the arcade. Take the Explore Tenby & Saundersfoot Open Top Bus

Broad Haven
Broad Haven is one of our favourite family beaches in Pembrokeshire thanks to its wide sandy beach, rock pools, cafés and relaxed atmosphere.
It works especially well for simpler summer holiday days where you just want buckets, wetsuits, chips on the beach and sea air. It’s one of our favourite places to watch the sunset. I think the photo above sums up our time at Broad Haven (North) so well.
There are also the Broad Haven Boardwalk Trail, woodland walks and coastal path walks to enjoy.

Family Attractions Open During the Summer Holidays In Pembrokeshire
Pembrokeshire has plenty of attractions that can easily fill an entire family day out during the school holidays.

Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo
Folly Farm remains one of the most popular family attractions in Pembrokeshire, with zoo animals, fairground rides, adventure play and indoor areas making it a good option whatever the weather. There is so much to do there that they offer a free return visit within seven days to help visitors try to cover it all! For locals, annual passes are a better value in the long run, and you can make very good use of them during the summer holidays, then enjoy visiting in half terms and at Christmas too.

Manor Wildlife Park
Manor Wildlife Park near Tenby offers large walk-through enclosures and opportunities to see rhinos, tigers (lots of tiger cubs), lemurs, giant rabbits and wallabies. Zaza has now left, but there are still four very cute tiger cubs to visit- Elin, Seren, Merlyn, and Maddox. They also have red panda cubs, Fred and Pebbles, who live with their mum, Betty.

The Dinosaur Park, Tenby
The Dinosaur Park Tenby combines dinosaur trails, rides, play areas and family attractions, making it especially popular with younger children during school holidays. Tickets are limited. If you’re not lucky this time, then keep an eye on the Bluestone Foundation’s Event Page for future events.

Puffins, Wildlife & Boat Trips In Pembrokeshire
Spring and summer are the best times of year for wildlife boat trips in Pembrokeshire.

Skomer Island Wildlife Trips
Puffin season is in full swing by spring and there are plenty of other wildlife around during the summer holidays. Trips to Skomer Island are one of the most memorable wildlife experiences in Wales.
Landing trips often sell out weeks in advance, but top tip – if the landing trips are fully booked, book a non-landing wildlife boat trip instead. You still get incredible close-up views of puffins (only during May, June and early July, sorry) from the sea and often avoid some of the queues and timings involved with island landings. This is also a more accessible alternative for people who find it difficult to climb up the steps and walk around the island (as long as they can get on and off a walk-on boat).
Boat trips from Martin’s Haven can also offer sightings of:
- seals
- porpoises
- dolphins
- razorbills
- guillemots
Find out more: Skomer Island

Caldey Island Boat Trips
Boat trips to Caldey Island from Tenby are another lovely summer holiday day out.
The island is known for its monastery, lighthouse, peaceful atmosphere, beaches and famous chocolate shop.

They have a special half-price family day for locals on Sunday 26th July, meaning it will only cost £32.50 for a family of four.
Find out more: Caldey Island

Ocean Lab Aquarium, Goodwick
The Sea Trust Ocean Lab Aquarium in Goodwick is a lovely attraction for children and adults with an interest in local marine life. The “catch and release” Sea Môr Aquarium displays and interactive exhibits are linked to Pembrokeshire’s coastline. It’s much smaller than a typical city aquarium, but that’s part of its charm – the focus feels far more centred on the creatures themselves and on education, conservation and learning rather than simply entertainment.
Ocean Lab is open every day in the Summer Holidays.

Welsh Wildlife Centre Summer Holiday Activities
The Welsh Wildlife Centre near Cilgerran is hosting additional family nature activities throughout the summer holidays.
Set within the beautiful Teifi Marshes Nature Reserve near Cilgerran, the Welsh Wildlife Centre is a fantastic place to enjoy nature during the summer holidays. Families can explore accessible boardwalks, bird hides and woodland trails, visit the Glasshouse Café, and look out for kingfishers, dragonflies, butterflies and, if you’re lucky, even otters. Throughout the school summer holidays, the centre also runs a programme of family-friendly activities, including Mini-beast Safaris every Wednesday morning (22 July-26 August), Crafty Afternoons every Wednesday afternoon (22 July-26 August), and Nature Walks with nature-themed activities every Thursday morning (23 July-27 August). These hands-on sessions give children the chance to discover local wildlife while enjoying time outdoors, making the Welsh Wildlife Centre a wonderful choice for a quieter family day out in Pembrokeshire.
Spring and summer are the loveliest times to visit the reserve with wildflowers, birdsong and opportunities to spot butterflies and wetland wildlife around the Teifi Marshes. The water buffalo have recently been replaced with highland cattle.

Can you see puffins in Pembrokeshire during the summer holidays?
Skomer Island is the best-known place to see puffins in Pembrokeshire, but the summer holidays are towards the end of puffin season. Puffins are usually present from spring until July, with many beginning to leave during the middle of the month and generally departing by the end of July.
Boat trips to Skomer continue after the puffins have left, and there is still plenty of wildlife and beautiful scenery to enjoy. We love taking a summer holiday boat trip to the island. If Skomer landing trips are fully booked, non-landing wildlife trips offer another way to explore its coastline and surrounding waters.

One of the nicest things about summer holidays in Pembrokeshire is that it does not need to feel rushed or over-planned. Some of the best memories come from simple days spent outdoors, spotting wildlife from a boat or dolphins from the breakwater or coast path, discovering somewhere new, or ending the day with fish and chips beside the sea while watching the sunset.
