Once we’re into December, it’s time to sit down with the kids as they write their letters to Santa. This will change over the years. You may start by writing the letter for them, then they will progress to tracing or copying your writing until, eventually, they write their letters independently. You could get all creative and get out the paint and glitter, or even just your pencil case of colours. Stamps and stickers can be fun too!

Letters to Santa (post updated 2025)

“Letter to Santa” templates and printables are available but my kids used to prefer to use plain paper, which they could set out and decorate their own way. The only things you need are paper, envelopes, and pencils.

A Flashback to When my Children Were Young…
“The girls wrote their letters, then decorated them and the envelopes. I always check that they have written their full name and address (including postcode) neatly so that Santa can reply. Sometimes they omit this (“Santa already knows where we live, he’s magic!”), so I add it later just in case, as even the magical need admin help in their life!

I treasure these memories!
Post Your Letter to Santa at your Local Town Hall
Then we post our letters. Most towns offer a local letter to Santa service. Our local town hall and also our library have postboxes this year. As long as we remember to add our address then we always get a reply delivered to our home. This year they’re requesting a stamped addressed envelope so Santa can pop a reply in the post. Update: In 2024 An SAE was no longer required thanks to a generous offer from Milford Haven County Councillor, Terry Davies- there’s the spirit of Christmas right there- thank you! I will check for 2025!

Post Your Letter to Santa at Tour Local Library
Pembrokeshire libraries offer a letter to Santa service but Santa has asked children to pick up their replies when they return their library books which is a good idea as he is very busy. Please check for information at your local library. At Milford Haven Library, the last posting date is 4pm on 12th December. The letters from Santa will be available to collect from 15th December. Keep a look out for all the other lovely Christmas activities planned at your local library too!

How to get a Letter from Santa if You’ve Missed the Postal Date
We’re all busy at this time of the year. Don’t worry if you’ve missed the last postal date for sending your letter to Santa. Thanks to digital magic you can print off a reply from Santa on the Royal Mail website (this is available in Welsh too). You can also request a reply in Braille.
Teachers: Schools Sending Letters to Santa
If you’re a teacher who would like to send a letter to Santa from your class, you can! The Royal Mail ask that you send your letters to reach Santa by Friday 5th December 2025. For more information on sending letters to Santa if you are a school, click here.
We get so excited when our letters from Santa arrive and we/ve kept every single one over the years- they are so lovely to look back on.
