It’s Blogtober Day 3 and today’s prompt is The Soundtrack of my Autumn. Instead of sharing my very varied musical playlist with you, I’m going to hear the sounds I’ve been hearing and noticing lots so far this autumn.
The Soundtrack of My Autumn
Apart from working and everyday life, I mainly seem to be walking Ozzy (the dog) at the moment. These are my favourite times of the day. Most of the sounds I’ve noted have been from our walks:
- Seagulls calling above the beach, their cries carried by the cool breeze.
- The crisp crunch of dry leaves under our feet as we walk.
- The pitter-patter of rain against the window as I lie in bed, warm beneath the covers. I never want to get up when I hear wind and rain as it makes me feel so cosy.
- The squelch of damp leaves clinging to my shoes on wetter days.
- The wild wind howling, rushing through empty streets and trees.
- The comforting sound of the kettle bubbling and boiling when I return from a chilly walk.
- The soft splashing of puddles, footsteps muffled by water and earth.
- Waves crashing rhythmically against the shore and the shingle rattle as the tide pulls out again.
- The rustle of trees, their branches swaying and whispering secrets to the wind.
- The gentle thud of leaves and nuts as they tumble to the forest floor.
- The quick, light scuttling of squirrels, busy gathering their autumn treasures
- A match striking, the rasp then sudden flare and the soft whoosh of a candle taking it’s flame’s first breath.
As we go deeper into autumn, there will be more seasonal sounds to hear, such as fireworks and fires crackling.
What is the soundtrack of your autumn? Let me know in the comments or link up your Blogtober post.

I do love the sound of the leaves as you walk through them, also nothing nicer than being tucked up in bed and the wind and rain battering around outside

That’s an interesting take on the prompt. I can still hear a lot of birds in the trees at the bottom of my garden, but they haven’t started to lose many leaves yet, it seems slow this year probably because of having such a sunny summer.
