After our Pembrokeshire coastal path walk from Broad Haven to Druiston was abandoned due to the slippery, muddy cliffside path, Isabelle made the great suggestion to instead head to Broad Haven Broadwalk Nature Trail– the perfect all weather adventure. Read on to see photos from our walk around Broad Haven Slash Pond:
Broad Haven Slashpond Nature Trail (The Boardwalk)
Broad Haven Boardwalk Nature Trail (Sat Nav Postcode: SA62 3JU) can be found just behind Broad Haven’s seafront. Turn off the main road at the Galleon Inn and head away from the beach. There is free parking (with a donation box for local causes) at the Trafalgar Terrace car park. Head towards the signs, pictured above to enter the Boardwalk.
Slash Pond Viewing Point
Immediately after walking through the entrance, you are treated to a a beautiful view of the nature Slash Pond that changes thoughout the year. One advantage of visiting during the winter months are you get a clear view of the pond. I made a mental note to put together a pond dipping kit for us to take out with us during spring and summer months. The pond dipping deck is great for children and adults alike to explore the pondlife.
Nanny and her two youngest granddaughters.
During spring and summer the Boardwalk paths are so pretty, surrounded by wildflowers and greenery.
Along the walk there is a second viewing point. I think it looked quite atmospheric during our winter walk,
There are information boards and a free Nature Trail Quiz Leaflet is also available from the Post Office at the Londis (and other local retailers, restaurants and bars) or you can download and print from the link above.
The Boardwalk Picnic Area
The Boardwalk Picnic area is a lovely spot to stop and enjoy a picnic. It’s large enough to meet up with friends and for educational groups to visit. We often spot a robin, squirrel and even a cat while we sit here. It’s beautiful when the trees are in blossom. In winter enjoy the space and the wildlife in the bug houses.
As always, we enjoyed our visit to Broad Haven and will be back soon.
Have you visited Broad Haven Boardwalk Nature Trail?
