Top Trumps is a classic game that I think every child or at least family should have a pack to play in the home. The premise of the game remains the same for any pack so you could play any set. However, it’s much more enjoyable to play a set based on a topic you know and love. My favourite Top Trumps packs as a child were based on sports cars and pedigree cats! Caitlyn loves football and everyone was so pleased to see the English Lionesses win the Women’s Euro 2022. So we were excited to see they are now a Top Trumps Specials Pack. Top Trumps: Women’s European Football Champions Game: What’s in the Box
The thing I love about Top Trumps is they all come in a small sturdy plastic box for safekeeping. As I said before every child or household needs at least one pack of Top Trumps. You can keep one in the car for travels, or one in your backpack for playing wherever you go or even in your pocket. I remember during my college days, every break would be spent playing cards and Top Trumps (when I had finished studying in the library, of course – ahem!). In the plastic box, you get all the cards you need to play the game, including a “How to Play” card.
How to Play Top Trumps
I’m assuming most people know how to play Top Trumps, but just in case you begin by shuffling the cards and dealing face down. You can play with two or more players. Hold your own cards face up so only you can see the top card. The player to the dealer’s left starts and places their top (of the pack) card. They then read out one of the stats (e.g. Apps 25). The other players then read out the same stat.
The player with the best or highest value wins that round. They take all the top cards, including their own and put them at the bottom of their deck. They then choose a stat from their next card to read out.
If two or more cards share the best value, or data is not available, then all the cards are placed in the middle and you read the same stat from the next card. The winner of this round takes the cards in the middle as well.
Keep going until one player is left with all the cards- they are the winner of the game.
A Quicker Game
For a faster game, play the “discard rule”, which means any losing card is simply removed from the game. The last person left with cards in their hands wins.
Our thoughts on Top Trumps: Women’s European Championships
Top Trumps is an amazing game for keeping families and friends entertained, wherever they are. Top Trumps is a great learning game too. You learn more about the topic (I am now such an expert on all the stats of the Lionesses!). It also helps improve memory and decision-making skills. Overall it is a fun game that passes the time quickly. This pack is also a lovely collectable pack to remind us of the Lionesses’ achievement in 2022. We recommend it!
Women’s European Football Champions Top Trumps is available to buy from Winning Moves for £8. This price is correct at the time of publishing. This makes it a great stocking filler present. It’s suitable for ages 6 and over.
