If you are keen to look after your home as well as possible, there are a lot of things to bear in mind there. One of the main ones is that you need to focus on cleaning all of the home, and this is actually often trickier to do than you might realise – if only for the fact that there are so many parts of the home that you will often never see, which nonetheless need a lot of cleaning in order to be properly maintained.
With that in mind, we are going to look today at some of the parts of the home that you don’t normally see, and try to understand how you might be able to clean them better – as well as why this might be quite so important to do.
Underneath The Couch
From time to time, it is necessary to look under the couch, and when you do it can often be quite shocking what you discover down there. If this is an experience you would like not to repeat, then you might want to think about keeping it clean as much as you possibly can. That is pretty straightforward to do – you just need to lift one end up, put something under it to hold it, and then put the vacuum cleaner under there. But that can be hard on your own, so you might want to get some help with it to make it easier.
As long as you are keeping the underside of the couch clean, you should find that you are able to keep the whole living room clean. You might also want to simply ensure that you are keeping on top of any food and other items that might roll under there – by simply fishing them out as soon as possible.
Gutters & Roof
Of course, you don’t ever – or rarely – go on the roof, so you can’t really know what kind of a state it is in without going up there. Often, you are not aware of any issues that might be going on until it becomes clear in another way – such as when the gutters are blocked and you have water spilling down the side of the building rather than into the drain. If this is happening, you should get up there and clean it as soon as possible.

In truth, it is better to be preventative here, and to keep the roof and gutters clean along the way. And because it can be dangerous to get up on the roof yourself, you might want to think about calling in the professionals to do some vacuum gutter cleaning for you. That way, you can keep safe and still enjoy a clean roof and guttering. That is the best of both worlds, and it will make a huge difference to how much you can enjoy being in your home, especially in the colder months.
Dryer Vent
If you have a dryer, then you will need to make sure that you clean out the vent from time to time. A lot of people leave this job until it is far too late, and this is the kind of thing that can be much more than merely a nuisance – it can actually be a fire hazard. That’s because the lint in the vent can easily catch fire if you are not careful, and before you know it you might have a fire break out in the home. Clearly, that is something best avoided!
It is fortunately very simple to clean out the dryer vent. You just need to locate where it is on the machine, normally at the bottom of the machine, and lift it out (while the machine is turned off). Then you can pick it out with your fingers, clean it under a tap, and dry it out. You might want to think about doing this once a month at the least, and perhaps more frequently if you are using the machine a lot.

Behind The Refrigerator
As with the underneath of the couch, behind the refrigerator is very often a part of the home that gets very dirty indeed. If you are keen to make sure that it stays clean, you’ll have to move the fridge out every now and then so you can get behind it, which is of course quite a big and frustrating task. However, it is worth it, as it means you won’t have food going moldy in the kitchen anymore – and that will help the smell of the place too!
