Exams are stressful for anyone; no matter how much preparation you think you’ve done, you’ll always feel anxious about how you’ll perform on the day. The same applies to children, who are under pressure to get good grades so that they can move onto the next milestone in their education. Parents can help their children get through this challenging period, using the following tips from a boarding school in Dublin.
Prepare a Revision Timetable
Putting together some sort of revision schedule will help your child manage their time and feel more in control. When helping them prepare this timetable, encourage them think about which areas of their education that might need a little extra work, as there’s no point spending equal amounts of time revising something that they’re already perfect at as something they’re struggling with. You should also make sure they factor in rest and leisure time into their revision timetable, as this is important for their wellbeing.
Encourage Healthy Habits
Your child might want to stay up all night cramming, or snack on junk food rather than taking breaks to eat proper meals but making poor lifestyle choices will not benefit them in any way. They need to eat three healthy meals a day, get around eight hours of sleep each night, and continue exercising and socialising. Lack of sleep, sugary foods, and dehydration can all lead to the inability to concentrate and can also compromise the immune system. The last thing your child needs is to get sick during exam period.
Provide a Listening Ear
Make sure your child knows that you are there for them to talk to about anything on their mind and would love to help them in any way you can. Knowing that they have your support will give them the confidence they need to persevere. Praise them for working hard and remind them that you will love them no matter what the end result, as long as they try their best.
