Just before the summer holidays, mum and I took ourselves to Broad Haven for our last lunch out (“the last supper”!) before the kids broke up from school. We’d been looking forward to enjoying a burger at Sand & Stone, for a while so that was our restaurant of choice. Sand & Stone have been crowned “Best Burger in Pembs” and I always see friends sharing photos of their delicious creations.

Sand & Stone
Sand & Stone can be found at 3 Marine Road (Sat Nav Postcode: SA62 3JR) and there is a car park just across the road. I remember going there years ago when it was another “chippy”. We arrived in Broad Haven and walked across the beach first and then came and ordered our burgers. In hindsight, we should have ordered our burgers on the way down, walked the beach, and then returned to pick them up. You can also pre-order for takeaway and table bookings, which is advisable (phone number: 01437 782696).
We were impressed with how Covid safe the premises and procedures were. We wore a mask, social-distanced, kept behind the screen and waited outside for our food. The staff were very friendly and eager to answer my queries- such as checking the slaw would be vegan. It was service with a smile.

Burgers on the Beach
There are tables inside and outside at Sand & Stone but nothing can beat eating on the beach with a view so we made our way just across the road to Broad Haven beach. Out of season we often have the beach to ourselves but at this time of year, it’s naturally busier, especially during the summer holidays. There’s always plenty of space for everyone though!

Sand & Stone Burgers
Our burgers were worth the wait- I loved how they were packaged and couldn’t wait to tuck in. They have an amazing burger menu with something for everyone. They also have a “Not Burgers” section on the menu, Breakfasts, and even sell pizzas during Friday and Saturday evenings.

Mum chose the “Cheesy Swine” Burger, it did make us laugh to see “Swine” written on her burger box.

Vegan Burger
I had the less harsh “Fun Guy” written on mine as I opted for the Fun Guy Vegan Burger.

Sorry for the quick phone snaps- I couldn’t wait to tuck in. The Fun Guy Burger consists of beer-battered mushroom, cheddar, tomato, lettuce, and chipotle sauce. It was served with flavoursome skin-on fries and vegan slaw. It was delicious. I really can’t wait to return and have another one.
They also sell a “Never Seen Herbivore” Jackfruit Burger so I’ll have to try that one day too- it’s a tough job but somebody has to do it!

We visit Broad Haven frequently and often bring a picnic. On the occasions we come here for lunch, I’m always spoilt for choice as a vegan, so if you’re a vegan travelling to Pembrokeshire definitely make a trip to Broad Haven.
Thank you to Sand & Stone for the great service and delicious food, we will be back!
