I love rainbows and think they make a great theme for children’s bedrooms. Rainbows brighten up every room, fill us with hope and put colour back into our lives. On the practical side, it’s easy to add a rainbow theme with just adding accessories, meaning the room can easily grow with your child. As kids tend to have lots of bright different coloured toys they naturally coordinate with the room too! Take a look at these ideas for a rainbow room:

-
Walls
If you want to go completely over the rainbow there are some gorgeous rainbow-themed wallpapers available. I like the idea of keeping the walls white and just adding a rainbow wall decal or painting a rainbow mural. That way it’s easy to change the theme in the future. If white walls aren’t for you the beauty of having a rainbow-themed colour is you have a rainbow of colours to choose from as your base! A light sky blue would be apt and fresh-looking too!
2. Furniture
Personally, I’d keep the larger items of furniture, such as the bed, wardrobe and chest of drawers matching in one colour. I think white, grey, natural wood or pale blue or pink would look great. Then for smaller furniture, you can have fun and choose out of the colours of the rainbow. You could put up seven shelves, one in each rainbow colour or have a rainbow of chairs around the craft table.
3. Flooring
There are some gorgeous rainbow printed vinyl floor designs available. A more practical option is to choose a white, grey or “natural wood” laminate floor. Rainbows can easily be added with a small rainbow rug near their bed, and a large rainbow rug in the middle of the room. If you prefer carpet, a light grey or blue would work best.
4. Curtains
There are so many options for curtains in a rainbow-themed room. You could choose plain colour drapes or fabric featuring a rainbow pattern. I like rainbow coloured curtains, such as the Rainbow Ombre Eyelet Curtains from Next. For a brighter rainbow room choose bright rainbow curtains. Cloud curtains always look lovely in children’s rooms. I think clouds, raindrops and sun prints coordinate so lovely with rainbows.
5. Accessories
You will have so much fun accessorising your child’s rainbow bedroom. Most high street stores have a great selection of rainbow accessories. Again you have so much choice from rainbow, clouds, suns, stars or any of the rainbow colours to choose from. Hang a rainbow pom- pom garland over the bed and add a rainbow shaped pillow to your rainbow bedding. Talking about bedding again there is a lot of choice of rainbow bedding- whether you prefer pastel, bright or pink with added unicorns. Style the shelves with iconic rainbow toys such as a Grimm’s Mini Rainbow, Care Bear or Rainbow Brite Figures. Pop a rainbow suncatcher on the window, hang rainbow prints on the walls and get crafty making your own rainbow accessories.
