Time and space are two things which we always seem to be short of! And while it’s not that simple to create more time (not literally, at least), it is possible to create more space with some adjustments. Moving things around, adding a shelf or two, thinking out of the box and being a little creative helps in creating additional space in your home. Take a look at these ideas to get inspired.
1. Shelving
Shelves are the simplest (and prettiest) way to add more space and storage to your home. They are not expensive; come in various shapes, sizes and materials to match your decor and fit into the space you have, and can be beautified even while being a smart storage option. Mix and match your storage items with plants and other small decorative items to create a more aesthetic look.
2. Under-The-Stairs Storage
This would take some professional work or if you are good at DIY, then you could try it yourself. If there is empty space beneath your staircase, why not use it sensibly to store items such as coats, shoes, umbrellas or even your vacuum cleaner – things that you need on a daily basis but fill up your hallway.
You could either get a door fitted to keep everything hidden or, put strategic shelves or a shoe cabinet under the staircase to optimise the empty space.
3. Put Some Things Into Self-Storage
We all have things in our house that we don’t use on a daily basis. Some are things that we want to store for a later time (such as your baby’s pushchair or cot or toys, for your second child to use in the future) while others are things that we use on a seasonal basis (winter coats and boots, portable heaters etc). Instead of them taking up precious wardrobe space, or storing them under your bed or in nooks and corners of your home, why not put them in a self-storage such as https://storeandmore.com.au/. You can choose a unit size that suits your requirements and you have 24/7 access to your belongings. And – the best part – you have so much extra space in your home now!!!
4. Furniture With Storage
Multi-functional furniture is key to smart storage solutions. Instead of investing in a sideboard or a bench, get a storage chest or an ottoman with storage that can double up as a sideboard table, a bench or a footrest as well. Depending on where you place it, you can shove items you don’t want to be strewn all-around your house in it, such as shoes, toys, additional blankets and pillows.
Similarly, if you get a bed with drawers or under-bed storage, there is so much you can fit in it and make more space in your bedroom.
Likewise, for a child’s room, get a multi-purpose bunk-bed or mid-sleeper with an attached cupboard, drawers, shelves and desk. This all-in-one unit will be compact, yet have so much space for your child to store his or her things.
