Keeping a lawn looking neat and tidy doesn’t have to be a hassle. Below are a few tips on how to make lawn care easy and stress-free.
Opt for synthetic turf
The most obvious way to make lawncare easy is to opt for an artificial lawn. By laying down some synthetic turf, you can achieve a perfect lawn all year round without ever having to water it, mow it or de-weed it. Occasionally you may have to give it a brush and a clean, however, that’s about all the maintenance it needs. Diehard gardeners may view it as a bit of a cheat, but most guests won’t care if it’s not the real thing (modern synthetic turfs are so convincing that some people won’t even be able to tell the difference).
Opt for a clover lawn
A clover lawn could be another alternative to a traditional grass lawn. Clover requires less water than grass, is more resistant to weeds and pests and doesn’t have to be mown as regularly. Laying a clover lawn is also quite cheap compared to laying traditional turf. All in all, it’s a lot less hassle than grass. It’s possible to opt wholly for clover or for a grass/clover mix if you still want some grass.
Buy a robot lawn mower
If you find mowing to be a major inconvenience, you could consider buying a robot lawn mower. These mowers literally mow themselves. They move automatically, using sensors to detect the perimeters of your garden and any obstacles so that they don’t hit anything. You simply have to press a button to start and stop them. Such robots aren’t cheap to buy, however they could be worth the time saved having to mow your lawn manually. It’s worth researching into the best robot lawn mowers to find one that is truly efficient.
Use a smart sprinkler
Smart sprinklers could be a great solution for irrigating your lawn. While standard automated sprinklers can be turned on manually or put on a timer, these sprinklers can be set to detect when your lawn needs sprinkling by also taking in parameters such as the temperature and whether it’s been raining. This can help you to keep your lawn hydrated while using the minimum amount of water necessary. Such a sprinkler could be a real investment by helping you to reduce your water bill.
Apply lawn fertilizer in spring
Lawn fertilizer can help to give your lawn a boost of nutrients to help with growth. If your lawn is looking a little bit patchy or thin after winter, it can be a great solution for making it lush again. Some fertilizer companies suggest using fertilizer multiple times per year, but in many cases you can get away with applying this once per year in the spring (just make sure that it is applied thoroughly and evenly). It’s worth doing your research into fertilizers and choosing ones that are most recommended by gardeners, as not all fertilizers are equally good.
