Parenting is one more big adventure. But it’s a tiring one. When you become a parent, you spend more time worrying about being awake enough for the kids, you don’t get enough rest for yourself. Sleep is something that becomes a tradable good in a marriage when the kids come along, and combatting that exhaustion is so important if you want to keep on with your day.
Children cannot help being exhausting. They are filled with energy from morning until night, and you are at mercy to their demands. They will demand everything of you from your ability to cook a healthy meal to the fact that you need to play NOW and not have that delicious PureGusto Coffee that’s already gone cold! The key in parenting is being able to rise above that blanket of sleep that threatens to overcome you and keep going anyway. With that in mind, we’ve got five ways that you can combat parenting exhaustion and finally feel something good in yourself.

Embrace Caffeine
As a parent, caffeine is going to be your best friend. However, you will find that hot coffee often goes cold, so cold coffee may be the new kid in town! You can buy cold coffee from the shops these days if you don’t have the money for a Starbucks drive-in. Coffee isn’t the only source of caffeine of course, but it works quickly. You just need to remember not to overdo it unless you want the jitters and heart palpitations.
2. Go To Bed Early
You can laugh at this one if you like, but you need to think about going to be at a decent hour. The biggest issue is that as parents, our only time for ourselves happens to be at the end of a very long day. Use that time to your advantage by going to bed at a proper time and sleeping for at least 6-7 hours if you can manage it.
3. Set An Alarm
If you ensure that you set an alarm every day, you can get off to a good start. A good beginning is one of the best things you can do to start your day right. Setting an alarm to be up before the children gives you time to shower, get dressed and have at least one hot drink before they wake up. This can really set you up for the day and make you feel like you’ve achieved something.
4. Nap!
When the kids go to school, have a nap. If the kids are still babies, nap when they do – housework can wait! You need to sleep when you can, and napping when the baby does will help you to catch up.
5. Cold Water
The last thing you can do is to splash your face with cold water to freshen up when you need to. Coldwater can give you a burst of wakefulness, even when you really would rather sleep and get your head down! Coldwater is also great to drink to wake your brain up!
