There is no rule that says you can’t enjoy your garden all year round. Every season is beautiful, however, there is something special about autumn. So, let’s have a look at five of the reasons why autumn is a fantastic time of the year for outdoor living:
It Improves Your Health
Being outside on a crisp autumn day is the perfect way to reduce stress and gain a better sense of wellbeing. There are countless studies that show us that being outside has many health benefits that include the reduction of depression and strengthening our immunity. Gardening is linked with better mental health and is also a good form of exercise So while you are working on your outdoor area ideas, you are also giving yourself a much-needed boost of vitamin D, switching off from the pressures of daily life, and enjoying nature.
It’s A Beautiful Season
This is often the season that your garden looks at it’s best. Some of the flowers are still out, however, the leaves are starting to turn hold and red, bringing a new range of colours to your outdoor-loving space. The days may be getting shorter, but you will notice that the weather is quite often still warm enough to be outdoors. Depending on which way your home is facing, you may be able to enjoy the sunshine in your garden long after summer has ended.
It’s The Perfect Time Of Year For Wildlife Spotting
This is the best season when it comes to spotting wildlife in your garden. Nature puts on a wonderful show this time of the year, and it’s not something you want to miss by retreating to the indoors too soon. From hedgehogs preparing for hibernation to flocks of migrating birds, there are loads for you to see even if you live in the city or countryside. Spend a little time snuggled under a blanket and you may be surprised what wildlife passes through. It could be a good idea to build a few things for wildlife so that they are protected through winter. Think about bug hotels, hedgehog houses, and bird boxes.
It’s Great For The Kids
Now that summer is over the days of worrying about your kids getting sunburnt are over and you don’t need to wrestle with your kids before they play out. Although late autumn can be fairly wet, kids are much happier than adults to be out in the rain. Younger children love to splash around in their waterproofs and muddy puddles. With the colourful leaves, acorns, and nuts, autumn is also a brilliant time of the year for crafting materials. There are some great ideas online on platforms like Pinterest. Younger children love to find things and stick them to paper, older children might be more interested in playing conkers or building a wreath for Christmas.
