This post is sponsored by Boots but all thoughts are honest and my own.
I know I always say it but this year is going so quickly and I can’t believe it’s nearly Christmas! In the build up to this special holiday, Boots have been asking their customers a few questions and finding out what really makes people tick during the festive period. I was delighted when Boots asked me to answer these questions and work with them too. It wouldn’t be Christmas without popping to my local Boots store and picking out gift sets for family, friends and teachers. I love taking advantage of their 3 for 2 offers- they’re amazing!
Boots and I would love to know your thoughts on Christmas. If you answer a question in the comments you could be in with the chance to win a Soap & Glory Advent Calendar- perfect for treating yourself in the (lovely but hectic!) days leading up to Christmas:
What makes me tick at Christmastime:
• Which person’s gift receives the most thought?
At Christmas time, I tend to ask the kids what they want so they can write a letter to Father Christmas. I also have lots of ideas for smaller presents for them as I know what they’d need and like. I do spend quite a lot of time making sure their pile of presents will be fair. I don’t spend the same amount of money on each child (I know some parents spend ages trying to make up another child’s present cost to keep it fair!), but I make sure they have the same value of enjoyment!
I think I spend the most time thinking about what gifts to give my mum. When my dad was alive he loved spoiling her. He would wait until he finished work for the year and go shopping with us on Christmas Eve. It sounds like he left it really last minute but it was a deliberate tradition that we loved. He’d buy her a big present which varied from year to year. But every year he would usually also buy her a new handbag, Oil of Olay Creme, Vanderbilt Perfume, Jewellery, Wine, Chocolates and Flowers. So every year, I feel it’s important she gets all these things as well as a big present that my sisters and I will club together for. I know he’d want us to keep spoiling her now he’s not here to do it.
Boots found out that like my dad, partners gifts receive the most thought (38%). Dave and I buck this trend as we don’t actually swap gifts at Christmastime. Once we had kids we both decided that it was easier to spend our time and money sorting their presents than for each other. If we need anything during the year we will gift it to each other then instead. I’m sure once the kids have all left home (sob!) we’ll start buying for each other once more, otherwise our living room will look very bare on Christmas morning!
• When do you start your Xmas shopping?
According to the survey, almost a quarter of Brits started Christmas shopping in August and most of my online friends seem to start then or much before- everyone has a friend who starts their shopping during the Christmas sales. At that point I’m on the beach enjoying the sun and can’t think ahead to Christmas! I feel like I’m always the last person to start Christmas shopping-I’m definitely the last to finish! This is for a number of reasons, firstly, we don’t have any spare room to store presents for a long time. Secondly, I like to get all the immediate family birthdays out of the way before I start thinking of Christmas with the exception of Izzy who was born on 20th December. That would be too late for me to start shopping! Thirdly, as I’m self employed I shop as my payments come in so I tend to buy in dribs and drabs along the way! Now we’re into November, I’ve started making lists and have got a couple of presents already but I still have along way to go. I won’t start wrapping until December! For me it’s all part of the season and although I wouldn’t leave all my wrapping until Christmas Eve I like to have some left to do on the night!
• What is the most quintessential Xmas dinner food?
I love Christmas and I love food but sometimes I sound like a scrooge when it comes to Christmas food! I don’t like mince pies, Christmas pudding, Christmas cake or turkey (I’m vegan). I do agree with the 69% who say that roast potatoes are the most essential to Christmas dinner as you can’t have a roast without them. I love my mum’s Duchesse tomatoes and homemade stuffing at Christmas too- so delicious! And, love them or hate them…it wouldn’t be Christmas without Brussel sprouts!
Gifts for Her
Boots also asked me to choose a Christmas gift for her from their range. I love choosing gifts for my female family and friend from Boots as their is always something for everyone. I couldn’t just pick one so here are a few I chose. For beauty lovers a palette is great as you can never have too many eyeshadows. This Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Galaxy Eyeshadow Palette is just stunning and a must for any make up collection. It’s just gorgeous!
“A limited-edition glitter eyeshadow Galaxy palette with 14 stardusted shades that range from sheer, glittering topcoats to smoky, shimmer-drenched hues designed for accessorising any eye look.”
Stylish fashion fans will adore the Joules Ladies Scarf and Fragrance Set. The scarf is fabulous and the fragrance smells divine. The scarf will continue to be enjoyed long after the fragrance has ran out. I love it when gift sets contain a “forever” gift.
Another good example of this is the Soap & Glory Wonder Woman Bag of Wonder even after the eye-shadow, mascara and eyeliner is used up you can continue to use the “Wonder”-ful Wonder Woman make-up bag. Boots also have great gifts for Harry Potter fans.
Gifts For Him
As a woman, I sometimes find it trickier to choose Christmas gifts for him but at Boots they always have an amazing choice. The No7 Men Energising Wash Bag is filled with essential toiletries can be used time and time again. Music lovers will enjoy the Lynx Gold Trio & Micro Speaker Gift Set which contains a wireless shower speaker. Hardworking men will appreciate O’Keeffe’s Working Hands & Healthy Feet Male Giftset which offers relief to those who work outdoors at this time of year.
A Gift For Me
A gift for me? Why thank you! 37% would prefer to self-gift than receive Christmas presents from others, which I suppose is similar to what Dave and I do. I can understand it as it’s the best way to get what you really want and need but a gift from others is a lovely surprise and shows someone cares about you (not that they have to show you through gifts of course). It’s heartening to read that the majority, 57% of people say seeing the persons face when opening the gift is their favourite part of gifting, this is definitely my favourite part of gifting too but it is also nice to receive something for myself (thanks Boots!). I’ve actually gone for a pre-Christmas gift, the Boots Christmas Street Tealight Advent Calendar as it will be lovely to light a festive scented candle every day in the run up to Christmas. If you’d like to win a luxury advent calendar for yourself to enjoy- read on!

I start in the summer when my son starts his Christmas list
From November pay day onwards usually 🙂
I usually start at the beginning of September
As soon as I get paid in November!
Whenever I see a great deal somebody will like
I dont start my shopping as soon as I should! I will never learn. To be fair, I think about it quite early…I just don’t get round to actually doing the buying until the start of December. Maybe I should get cracking now! X

Normally about October but I’m really disorganised this year as my mum is ill so we’re doing most of it next week!
I really hate all the Christmas commercial hype, so put it off as long as possible. Maybe I’ll start tomorrow. Maybe.
I’m very much a last minute shopper.
At the beginnng of November
I normally start on the 1st of November.
I started mine mid October, although i did pick a couple of items up in September when I saw a few bargains.
Usually the beginning of December, unless I see something before
Usually November time that way I’m not rushing about and it doesn’t get too busy or things don’t go missing in the post
I buy my Christmas cards and wrapping paper in the sales in January. But the presents I start to buy in late November.
I haven’t started my christmas shopping yet. I’ll probably start the beginnning of december
I actively start looking for Christmas presents in Sept/Oct, but saying that, if I see stuff throughout the year that would be good for Christmas, I’ll pick them up there and then to put aside!
Normally after my eldest Daughters Birthday at the end of August, but very behind this year x
I have only just started towards the end of November as money has been quite tight this year.
We have some family birthdays in November so usually after they are out the way.
I’ve already started, but only a few little bits.
