The colder days and nights tempt us to eat rich, comfort food in the evenings. We look forward to our soup, stews, pasta and Sunday Roasts. If you’re looking for the perfect wines to pair with your hearty food then read on for five delicious high quality wines to share with five tasty meals ideal for cooking and eating this Autumn and Winter.
The Beauty and The Taste
To find the fine wines that paired best with my chosen meals I used the online boutique, The Beauty & The Taste. This is a website “dedicated and tailored around people enjoying beautiful stories and discovering new tastes”. I found this website easy to use. I ticked a few preferences, such as colour of wine, the occasion and choice of food and searched for their suggestions which you’ll find below.
Wine for a Cold Winter’s Night (with Bolognese)
My first search query was to find a wine for a cold winter’s night with a hot steaming bowl of spaghetti bolognese. Château d’Aiguilhe, Cotes de Bordeaux Castillon was suggested to me.
2014 Château d’Aiguilhe, Côtes de Bordeaux Castillon
A Sunday Roast
I love a Sunday nut roast dinner so I was interested to find out what wine would pair best with this family favourite meal.
2010 Tardieu-Laurent Saint-Joseph Les Roches Vieilles Vignes
Stew
One of my favourite Autumn meals is vegetable stew with herb dumplings. I searched for the best wine to pair with stew.
2005 Michel & Stephane Ogier Cote Rotie
Pizza Time
Friday night calls for fresh pizza and wine.
2013 Clos des Fous ‘Tocao’ Granito Paleozoico
“The 2013 Clos des Fous ‘Tocao’ Granito Paleozoico is a red wine made from Carignan and Malbec. “Clos des Fous” is a ground-breaking project: literally translating to “vineyard of fools”, the four partners running the estate don’t make any mystery about the fact they want to change the perspective about Chilean wines.”
Cheese and Wine
Cheese and wine are the ultimate combination. Sit yourself in front of the fire, prepare yourself a cheese board and pour that fine wine. Enjoy!
2012 Guidalberto
The Beauty & The Taste
The Beauty & The Taste is an online boutique for high quality wines so the prices reflect this. All prices on their website include vat and wine can be purchased by the bottle or compose a mixed case. Their focus is to offer vintages that showcase the wine at its very peak. This wine is meant be enjoyed straight away, rather than being kept in a cellar. Read more about wine and wine pairings on their Blog.

Some really great advice! I am a bit hopeless with wines, but really trying to learn more about how to enjoy them properly
Thank you for this, very useful advice!
I had no idea that I could search for suitable wine matches using The Beauty & The Taste. Very important when having visitors over for a meal!
Oh I do love a hot steaming Spag Bol and a good wine to go with it. My favourite meal. Some great pairings there
