I read so many books this summer but since the kids have returned to school there hasn’t been time to cosy up with a new book. All that will change tomorrow when I spend my birthday voucher and pick up this Autumn’s Richard and Judy’s Book Bundle (because it’s not like I already have books at home waiting to be read is it? – on a serious note they will all be read and re-homed, no books go to waste here I promise). Take a look at this season’s selection and read on for a chance to win a copy of The Sunday Times Bestseller, The Familiars by Stacey Halls.
Richard and Judy Book Club Bundle Autumn 2019
Regular readers know I love treating myself to the Richard and Judy Book Bundles. I have lots of books given and passed on to me so I always have plenty of books to read (and free use of the local library, of course) so I don’t buy every bundle but if I have birthday and Christmas vouchers to spend this is my “present” of choice to myself. It’s hard to resist new books!
In this latest season, they’ve chosen an award-winning dark comedy, an atmospheric thriller set on a remote Scottish island, and a tale of witchcraft and persecution set in the 1700s. The bundles are ideal for running your own book club at home or simply reading along with Richard and Judy. This season’s bundle includes: The Familiars, My Sister the Serial Killer, The Sentence is Death, The Butterfly Room, Sleep and My Lovely Wife. I can’t wait to read them!
The Familiars by Stacey Halls
To save her child, she will trust a stranger.
To protect a secret, she must risk her life.
Fleetwood Shuttleworth is 17 years old, married, and pregnant for the fourth time. But as the mistress at Gawthorpe Hall, she still has no living child, and her husband Richard is anxious for an heir. When Fleetwood finds a letter she isn’t supposed to read from the doctor who delivered her third stillbirth, she is dealt the crushing blow that she will not survive another pregnancy.
Then she crosses paths by chance with Alice Gray, a young midwife. Alice promises to help her give birth to a healthy baby, and to prove the physician wrong.
As Alice is drawn into the witchcraft accusations that are sweeping the North-West, Fleetwood risks everything by trying to help her. But is there more to Alice than meets the eye?
Soon the two women’s lives will become inextricably bound together as the legendary trial at Lancaster approaches, and Fleetwood’s stomach continues to grow. Time is running out, and both their lives are at stake.
Only they know the truth. Only they can save each other.

My Sister The Serial Killer by Oyinkan Braithwaite
When Korede’s dinner is interrupted one night by a distress call from her sister, Ayoola, she knows what’s expected of her: bleach, rubber gloves, nerves of steel and a strong stomach. This’ll be the third boyfriend Ayoola’s dispatched in, quote, self-defence and the third mess that her lethal little sibling has left Korede to clear away. She should probably go to the police for the good of the menfolk of Nigeria, but she loves her sister and, as they say, family always comes first. Until, that is, Ayoola starts dating the doctor where Korede works as a nurse. Korede’s long been in love with him, and isn’t prepared to see him wind up with a knife in his back: but to save one would mean sacrificing the other…

The Butterfly Room by Lucinda Riley
You shouldn’t be here. It’s too late…’ These were Richard Pryce’s last words, overheard moments before the celeb divorce lawyer was bludgeoned to death. Strange circumstances pile up. Baffled, the police are forced to bring in Private Investigator Daniel Hawthorne and his sidekick, the author Anthony, who’s really getting rather good at this murder investigation business. But as Hawthorne takes on the case with characteristic relish, it becomes clear that he, too, has secrets to hide. Anthony knows they must be exposed – even at the risk of death…
