This year Rebecca and her friends took part in Neyland Carnival with Neyland Brownies (where they volunteer) so we popped along to watch. It was a great display, full of colourful floats and walking parades. Take a look:
Rebecca was Moaning Myrtle (more about her costume below).
Moaning Myrtle, Harry Potter and Dumbledore! They looked great!
The Neyland Brownies as Harry Potter parade.
“The Walking Dead” float filled the streets with zombies.
This float was organised by Get The Boys a Lift, non-for-profit community interest organisation currently working to better improve mental health within communities.
The Rose and Willow pub put on a glamorous “Strictly Come Dancing” float.
Cleddau Avenue became Cleddau Zoo.
The Forresters did Day of the Dead.
Other floats to mention are Willy Wonka by Lawrenny Street, Guardians of the Galaxy and Harbour Close’s Groovy Grannies (including a great protest against the TV Licence for Pensioners).
Manilla’s impressed the kids by handing out free ice cream cones! I love their vintage ambulance. The carnival procession began at Honeyborough Green and ended at Neyland Athletic Club where the judging and afternoon entertainment took place.
It was a lovely carnival and great to see everyone had made such an effort. If you’re visiting Pembrokeshire this summer try to catch at least one local carnival. I’ve put together a handy list of some of the upcoming carnivals below:
How to dress up like Moaning Myrtle
We’re huge fans of Harry Potter, we love reading the books, watching the films (I really want them to be replayed in the cinema again!) and visiting the Warner Bros Studio Tour. The kids have dressed as Harry Potter and Hermione a few times but this was the first time we’d put together a Moaning Myrtle costume. Luckily we already have lots of fancy dress so the only things we had to buy were a Ravenclaw patch to put on our grey cloak and a Ravenclaw tie. Here are a few items to help you put this look quickly together:
To dress up as Moaning Myrtle begin with school uniform- a white shirt and grey or black skirt, black tights or Ravenclaw Socks and School shoes (or boots as although we don’t see her feet, I can imagine her wearing boots). School uniform can be picked up at a good price at your local supermarket.
If you have long hair tie in pigtails or wear this Magic Box Moaning Myrtle Style Brown Pigtail Wig and Glasses.
If you don’t require a wig you can just pick up a pair of rounded glasses here: TRIXES Unisex Silver and Black Beatles Retro Sixties Style Round Metal Glasses
Next, add a Ravenclaw (Blue and Bronze stripe tie, such as Zac’s Alter Ego® Wizards Tie For Fancy Dress, School Uniform, World Book Day
Wear a long grey or black cloak: Golden service Adult Halloween Costume Tunic Hoodies Robe Cosplay Capes.
We added a Ravenclaw patch- Harry Potter House Crests Ravenclaw Embroidered Badge Patch to ours. It ironed on very easily.
We also bought an optional Ravenclaw Pin silver-coloured as this is definitely a prop we’ll use again.
