Many of us long for a stylish, purposeful dining room, but so often in our busy lives, this room gets overlooked. The dining table soon gets filled with crafts, homework and paperwork. Before long, this room is no longer a calm, tranquil place ready for eating with the family. But with a little time and money, you can easily reclaim this space, revamp your dining room and enjoy family dining and entertaining friends once more. Read five ways to revamp your dining room:
-
Declutter your Dining Room
The first step is to declutter your dining room. Although the dining room isn’t the most used room in the house it often becomes a catchall for clutter. This can make a big difference to the room. Of course, many families, ourselves included, need this space to be multi functional. Shelving or a sideboard can hold organised craft supplies and paper work within the room. But unneeded clutter which builds up needs to be thrown or given away. If you have large unused furniture or exercise equipment in the room, move it to a new space or give it away so you can make the most of your room. The dining room should be a space to gather, not a space for clutter.
2. Add a Rug Under Your Dining Table
If your dining room is an open plan space off the living or kitchen areas, then a rug placed under the dining table can define the area and make a statement. The rug should be larger than the table and seating area. A rug will also serve to protect your flooring from chair movements, compliment your colour scheme and enhance your decor.
3. Replace your Dining Table and Chairs
Perhaps you are no longer using your dining table as much as your family have outgrown it? If this is the case invest n a new larger dining table and table chairs. It’s always best to have more dining spaces than you need as you may have guests but avoid buying a table that is too large for your dining area as this will overcrowd the room. 4. Hang a Pendant Light Over Your Table
Another way to define the dining area is to hang a pendant light over the dining table. This looks stylish and create an ambience for dining and entertaining.
5. Dress Your Dining Table
Keeping your dining table clear can keep the minimalist look of a room. However, as long as you keep your dining table clear in-between use dining rooms can benefit from simple decoration. Consider adding a simple runner, vase of fresh flowers, a bowl of fruit, candles or ornaments. When entertaining you can go all out and lay the table ready for a feast, of course.
