I love December and Christmas time. I adore having the Christmas decorations up and the house looking and feeling cosy. But come January, I always look forward to taking the decks down and having a fresh start. We have lots of house projects lined up for 2019 (2018 was a bit of a fail for us home wise to be honest). Here are my five dream house goals for 2019:
-
A New Corner Sofa
We recently retired one of our old sofas leaving us with just one sofa and a tub chair . We love the extra floor space this has given us but with a family of six there just isn’t enough seating room. Instead of buying an additional sofa we’d like to buy a corner sofa which takes up less room per seats. We planned to buy it last year but it kept getting lowered on our list of priories. However for 2019, it’s our first goal to meet!
2. New Double Glazed Windows
We have double glazed windows but they are very old and need replacing. The seal has gone and they mist up on the inside. They also let in more draft and we really feel this as we live in a windy area close to the coast. Therefore our next priority house goal is double glazed windows. This will be another expense for us but it will save us money in the long run as our home will be energy efficient once more. I admit I’m looking forward to replacing our dark brown windows with a lighter option too!
3. A New Shed
So, we already have the shed, but Dave needs both spare time and good weather (and the planets to align so these both happen at the same time). Then he can concrete the base and finally put our new shed up. This will give us a bit more space in the house (our utility room is currently taken over by tools) and mean that the kids can once again have bikes and scooters as we’ll have somewhere to house them.
4. A New Dining Table
We bought our current dining table when we were a family of three. Now that we’ve added to our family (and the kids keep on growing, who knew?) we’re really running out of room. In an ideal world we’d have two long tables- one for craft and games and another one always ready for family meals. As it is on our cramped square table we’re having to everyday pack away my work, craft and games each time we eat and we can’t all sit down together. I can’t wait to have a long table to enjoy family meals together once more.
5. Create a Home Work Space
I still work at the small dining table mentioned above and pack my work away for every meal time and each evening. I really need to create a permanent work space for myself. It won’t cost anything as we already have the desk in place (but currently it’s used for storage). I’d also like to paint the space and add some shelving. I can’t wait to achieve this goal and have an inspiring place to work in once more.
So that’s my five home goals for 2019. There’s lots more I’d love to do (such as the kids’ rooms) but these areas mentioned above have been neglected for too long so we need to prioritise them, get them done and then make a new list of house goals to do (it’s never ending isn’t it?)!
