Men started the trend of wearing bracelets long before women. In neanderthal times they would craft and wear brackets made by stringing natural materials, such as animal teeth, bones and shells, together. In Egyptian times, jewellery, including bracelets was of high importance to both men and women as it was thought to ward off evil spirits. Egyptians also believed that jewellery would get the attention of the Gods so they stacked on Gold and Silver bangles and armlets. These treasures would of course be placed in the tomb with the deceased to bring the bearer good fortune in the afterlife. For sailors, jewellery meant more than just protection. It was also their life insurance. If they became washed up on distant shores their gold hoop was enough value to pay for a Christian funeral. They would also drill holes in coins and wear as a bracelet to show off their wealth but also to prevent it from being stolen. Today, bracelets are still worn for many reasons including sentimental, identity, value, fashion and purely for enjoyment. Take a look at my top pick of 5 men’s bracelets:

Suited and Booted
If you’re often suited and booted a metallic or upscale bracelet will compliment your smart style best. The Westminster Titanium Bracelet (top left)is perfect whether whether you’re heading to work or to the theatre. Crafted in matte grey and gold plated titanium this stylish accessory will give your wardrobe a boost.
You Are Gold
GQ once stated that every man should own a gold bracelet. I remember my dad had a gold link bracelet and I used to love the way the links would fold when not in use. Inspired by this, my first digital watch was a link strap design. A real gold bracelet can be of sentimental value and become a new family heirloom or choose gold plate for all the bling on a budget. The Tyrone Bracelet (top right) is a handsome gold plate bracelet designed in wonderfully chunky links for a bold look.
Nautical Style
For a more casual look consider a rope bracelet. Anchor bracelets are a great choice for surfers and sailors. The Windlass Men’s Bracelet (centre) is designed in a trendy camouflage and has a silver plate hitch and details to dress up the look in a subtle manner. The practical material means it can be kept on during sporting water activities and still looks great for a night on the town later.
Layered Look
You may choose to wear more than one bracelet at a time. For a laid back look begin with a wrap bracelet, such as the Hugh Triple Wrap Bracelet in Black. Then add more thin natural coordinating or contrasting bracelets. This will soon become your signature look. A watch can also be worn on the same arm as a number of layered bracelets. It’s great to mix things up!
Going Around the Twist
A braided bracelet is the best choice for a strong practical smart casual everyday bracelet. The Andretti Black and Green Braided Bracelet is designed in jet black with just the barest hint of green (choose the colour of your choice!). This style can be layered as above or worn alone for just the right amount of added detail to your look.
As well as my top five picks there are so many other bracelet styles to consider. You may choose a health bracelet for added benefits, a personalised style for sentiment or rock up your look with men’s leather bracelets (vegan “leather look” alternatives are available).
