For homeowners, it can be a difficult decision deciding whether to spend money renovating and decorating your current home. You need to consider whether it will be your forever abode or is there a chance you’ll choose to sell up, call in the movers and buy a new house. If you’re struggling to make a decision, here are five signs that it’s time to buy a new house.
1. Your Current Home is Too Small
It seems obvious that as your family outgrows your home you need to consider booking the removal van. You know your home is too small when your children argue over having to share a bedroom and there is always a queue for the bathroom.
However, you first need to think about a number of things- is there room to extend your home. If your land is limited can you expand upwards with an attic conversion or extension? Get quotes for these jobs and look at prices for larger houses in your desired area. Will making these adjustments increase your homes value or out-price your home?
2. Your Current Home is Too Big
On the other extreme empty nesters can find that their family home is now too big. Do you find yourself with a number of empty rooms? When this is the case you can save money by downsizing and still have a spare room for family to stay when they visit. As well as saving money you will also save maintenance and cleaning time meaning you have more leisure time to enjoy.
3. You Could Make Money
Some homeowners are lucky enough to find their neighbourhood becoming a prime location while they are there and house prices go up. If you’re happy to move out of the area- perhaps closer to work or relatives then you could save money by moving to an area with lower house prices. Of course the house prices have gone up for a reason and if you love the area you live in with no reason to move then staying there is priceless.
4. You Need a New Home Renovation Challenge
While many homeowners can’t wait for building work to be complete others thrive on the challenge. Once their forever home is complete they get itchy feet (along with twiddling thumbs!) and begin looking for a new “fixer upper”. Perhaps they’re destined for a lifetime of “flipping houses” and making money or one day will finally get that “feeling” of contentment and just know that their new home is a keeper.
5. You Find Your Perfect New Forever Home
Sometimes homeowners are not even looking for a new home but a new abode finds them. Whether you see the listing online or pass a “For Sale” sign, you just “get a feeling” and know that is the house for you. If the viewing is successful and the finance adds up you could unexpectedly find yourself in the dream house that you never knew you needed! Hopefully it will be your forever home.
Are you a home owner? Did any of these reasons resonate with you? We’re definitely in the first category! Do you see yourself moving home in the future?
It can be a difficult decision, and what’s right for you can change quite quickly, too. These are all good things to consider.
