Today is a happy day as “The Little Book of Lykke” by Meik Wiking (author of the number one bestseller “The Little Book of Hygge”) is released. “Lykke”, is pronounced “lookah” and means “happiness in Danish. The world always needs more happiness within it and this book is a practical guide to finding everyday happiness. Read on for a chance to win a copy and bring more happiness into your life:
I was intrigued to hear that Meik Wiking (a former climate change policy maker) set up the Happiness Research Institute five years ago after the sudden death of his work mentor at the age of 49 to cancer. Coincidentally Wiking’s mother had also passed away of this disease at the same age and my own father was 49 when he died suddenly too. I can relate to the realisation that “that life is finite and we should get the most out of it”.
“The Little Book of Lykke” contains nine chapters:
1. The Treasure Hunt
2. How do you measure happiness?
3. Togetherness
4. Money
5. Health
6. Freedom
7. Trust
8. Kindness
9. Putting the pieces together.
It is an enjoyable read. Wiking guides us on a treasure hunt to unlock the doors to inner fulfilment. Every chapter contains gorgeous illustrations and photos throughout. I particularly like the happiness tips in each section.
As we go into our darker months “The Little Book of Lykke” has reminded me to reach out to people (not to hide away), to combine essential activities with socialising, to be generous (make extra food and share it with others), to make exercise an everyday part of life and to become a “Raktivist” (I’ve signed up to https://www.randomactsofkindness.org/).
“The Little book of Lykke” does not have all the answers, it’s an ongoing investigation into happiness and Wiking invites us to help in his mission by becoming his eyes around the world. He asks us to tell him when we see something that increases happiness- “write about it, film it, photograph it – and pass it on.” The Happiness Research Institute will be following the hashtag #Look4lykke on social media so use this to show them what makes you and your community happy.
