There are many to consider when planning your wedding, wedding invitations are a very important part of the experience. If you already have a theme for your wedding then the chances are you’ll have an idea of what you’d like your perfect invitations to look like. Equally important are the details you include. Here is a handy checklist of 10 things to include in your wedding invitations:
10 Things to Include in Your Wedding Invitations
1. Names of Guests Invited
This sounds obvious but make it clear who exactly you are inviting to the wedding and if they are allowed a plus one. Let guests know if children are allowed and invited to avoid an embarrassing mix up with numbers on the big day.
2. The Dates, Times and Locations
In addition to the wedding ceremony date, time and location, don’t forget to add details for the reception or any socials taking place before and after the wedding (such as an evening meal the night before).
3. Directions and a Map
Ensure your guests don’t get lost by including a map and clear directions. Include a SAT NAV postcode for drivers, public transport options and local taxi telephone numbers. If a mini bus for the guests is provided then include the timings and meeting points.
4. Accommodation
Many guests will come from afar and need accommodation. Include a list of local hotels and B&B’s (or even campsite options). Let guests know if you have managed to secure a wedding discount for guests.
5. Dress Code
You don’t have to have a formal wedding but if there is a dress code let guests know. Equally, if there isn’t then let guests know as some people will just assume there is. If there is a dress code then let them know in plenty of time so they have time to sort an outfit.
6. To Gift or Not to Gift
Again, wedding gift lists are optional, but make it clear so guests know what to expect. Many guests will assume to bring a gift or money unless you state otherwise. If there is an optional gift list then include it and include links to items for your guest’s convenience.
7. Dietary Requirements
Find out your guests dietary requirements in plenty of advance so you can discuss with the caterers. They will need to be aware of any allergies (such as nut, dairy and gluten) and also lifestyle diet choices (such as vegetarian or vegan). Menu choices should be included on the invitation too.
8. Favourite Song
Okay, this isn’t an essential for everyone but I would love to know my guests’ favourite songs so I can try to have everyone catered for during the evening entertainment or disco. You could state: “I promise to dance if you play:_____________” on the RSVP.
9. RSVP
Speaking of RSVPs, make sure you include one (either online or an RSVP card) and a date that you would like (make that need) to hear by so you have plenty of time to organise numbers.
10. Your Wedding Website
If you have one, include a link to your wedding website to keep all guests up to date both before the wedding and after when everyone is looking forward to the wedding photos!
By including all these details on your wedding invitations, you will be organised and can relax and enjoy your big day- congratulations!
