Scandinavian Style is here to stay and we can’t get enough of the calm, comfortable and modern Nordic inspired home designs. I am forever window shopping and online browsing to find new pieces and inspiration available (can we call it a hobby?)
Here are some of my favourite finds for a mustard and yellow Scandinavian style living room, lounge or sitting room.
The Decor
As a base for your Nordic look paint the walls milky white, soft grey or muted colours from nature such as a hazy sky blue. Add white and natural wood furniture with pops of yellow or mustard added in the soft furnishings. Bring the outdoors in with lots of plants such as stylish succulents.
The Sofa
Think mid-century classic design. I love the designer sofas with natural wood legs and button detailing on the backrest. The Ben de Lisi Home Large flat weave fabric ‘Jakob’ sofa gives a modern, clean line look to the living space. In our own lounge, we need a corner sofa bed. It’s not as easy to find a stylish sofa with these features but the Debenhams Textured ‘Dante’ right-hand facing chaise corner sofa bed ticks lots of boxes and creates a contemporary feel.
The Arm Chair
The Debenhams Fleck weave ‘Kempton’ armchair offers stylish simplicity and ’50s inspired silhouette while the Ben de Lisi Home Tweedy fabric ‘Marco’ armchair displays a clean contemporary design. Choose a neutral grey fabric or mustard or blue to add a pop of colour.
Cushions
Cushions are the most affordable way to quickly add a Scandinavian feel to your home. Add a mustard cushion to a grey sofa for the perfect colour combination. I love this fun
Scion Mustard ‘Spike’ cushion and also the Scion Blue ‘Mr Fox’ cushion which could be added to a yellow or mustard chair.
Coffee Tables
The Messina’ coffee table is a stylish and affordable way to freshen up living rooms. As well as grey this contemporary table is also available in yellow and white. Pair up with a contrasting side table for a modern look. Create a similar effect with existing tables by giving them a chalk paint makeover.
Wall Art
This contemporary Jones Skandi wall clock is ideal to complement pared-back interior schemes. Add nature inspired prints and typography posters too. Give walls a contemporary look with geometric wallpaper (off cuts of this can be used inside upcycle units and bookcases too).
Lighting
For an industrial look hang a wire light shade such as the Home Collection ‘Harrison’ pendant ceiling light. A Copper Dome Ceiling Pendant adds sophistication. Floor lights add to the Scandinavian feel too with wooden tripod designs.
Sideboard
For an authentic look keep an eye out for vintage sideboards for sale locally but if you prefer new there are reproductions available. The stylish Oak ‘Wayney’ wide sideboard features a modern lacquered finish for durability, handy drawers and slim angled legs for a Scandinavian touch.
Rugs
Another quick way to update a room is to change the rug. Go for a neutral look with the Black woollen ‘Diamond Kelim’ rug or make a colour statement by adding the bright Yellow wool ‘Fresco Trellis’ rug or even the fabulous multicoloured Blue wool ‘Funk Honeycomb’ rug.
