While I love my colourful winter coats (teal is my current favourite) I always want a black wool look coat in my wardrobe as a staple for the autumn and winter months. It’s a handy uniform for the early morning school run as you can grab it off the hook and put it on each day and it will, without fail, match every single outfit (so handy if you’re like me and don’t have time to colour coordinate at that time of day).
As Summer draws to a close and I begin buying the kids new winter uniform when needed I invest in a good winter coat and a pair of knee high boots for myself.
This year I chose a black plain duffle coat, it looks smart and has a practical hood, nice big pockets and keeps me warm. Another bonus is it happens to be machine washable so I don’t have to be too precious about it on muddy woodland walks. It is a bit on the long side for me as I’m below 5′ but there is a shorter length coat available if you are also on the shorter side. It’s also available in indigo and red if you happen to be looking for a colourful coat.
I also chose a pair of Cushion Walk Knee High Boots, they are smart for everyday use and so comfortable. I have wide feet so I’m pleased to say that they come in different widths and they even come in different calf sizes for an even more tailored fit. A bonus for me is they are not made from leather.
I wear mine with my everyday “uniform” of skater and tea dresses. Now we’re into advent I have started wearing my Christmas jumper teamed with a black skirt.
Here are seven ways to wear this combination to get you through the week with style:
