Yay, we survived the first week back to school. During the week, I spotted this yarn bombing appear in the Memorial Gardens so after school on Friday we went to take a look!
Unfortunately the weather changed and the heavens opened as we got there but thankfully the beautifully bright knitted and crocheted trees brightened up the gardens. Take a look:
One of our favourite’s was the “Beautiful pembrokeshire” tree- embellished with aspects of this lovely area.
I also loved this ladybird. Despite going on lots of woodland walks and bug hunts this Spring and Summer, I’ve somehow managed to not see one single ladybird in Pembrokeshire. I’ve found them everywhere else- including Cardiff, London and Weymouth but none whatsoever locally. I hope it’s just me and there are still lots here really!
When we got to the “stable”, we found out this this was the work of the wonderful Haverfordwest Yarn Bombers. We are lucky that it’s not the first time the memorial gardens has been yarn bombed, it’s previously been dressed for Summer and also Christmas by our resident Milford Haven Guerilla Knitters as well as other spots around the town.
It all looks so beautiful. I have lovely memories of the Memorial Gardens, my own Mum and Dad and Nanny and Grampy used to bring us here lots and always to see the newly blooming flowers, now my own kids are making their own memories here, from seeing the Nativity each Christmas in the stable to watching the carnival. Their own Grampy used to work here planting the bulbs too so they loved to pass through and see him then.
The town hall surrounded by yarn bombing.
The Takeaway Tree stands out too adorned with all kinds of fast food (don’t come and see it when hungry!).
While looking at the yarn bombing we spotted some Roald Dahl cards hanging from the trees. We found out that as part of the #RoaldDahl100 celebrations, there is a town treasure hunt taking place this week (until 17th September) and the yarn bombing is to mark the start- such a lovely idea and we will be taking part!
Thank you to Value Independence and Haverfordwest Yarn Bombers for decorating the Memorial Gardens for Milford Haven! It’s much appreciated! All money raised is going to Value Independence and Dahl’s Marvellous Charity.
