Our home interiors change just as naturally as the scenery outdoors does throughout the seasons. We’re having more cosy nights in as the evenings darken. The kids are bringing in autumn treasures, such as pinecones and conkers and I’m lighting candles for extra warmth and light.
I have also began to update our family fireplace with a more seasonal look. I hope to soon paint the wood cladding in a light shade to open up the whole room, but for now I have added some new home pieces to improve the look.
This Natural Vintage Owl sits happily on the fireplace, watching over us. I love owl ornaments and always find myself drawn to having them in the home.
I also love these Four Scented Butterfly Print Candle Tins from the Butterfly Home range by Matthew Williamson. I adore the pretty tins and dot them along the fireplace. They each have a lovely fragrance of rich myrrh, mimosa, violet and grapefruit scents. I will find a use for these printed tins even when the candles have burned out.
The Gisela Graham Stone Carved Owl Dish is the perfect place for us to keep our autumn finds and trinkets. Again, another owl design. Trinket dishes and trays are perfect to dot around the house to keep the home tidy. Those everyday “bits and bobs” need a home too.
In the evenings, we turn the main lights down and light the room with string lights, lamps and candles for a relaxed, cosy feel.
We bring in flowers from the garden to decorate the house. Rebecca loves the job of replacing the flowers each week. This will be the last of the garden hydrangeas I feel, so soon these will be replaced by winter plants and branches of berries. I also want to make some leaf bunting to hang across the fireplace.
I love this Slate Heart Shaped Serving Board. I have been using it as a simple cheese board and enjoying cheese, pickle and crackers or my favourite digestive biscuits, washed down with a local beer.
The board can also be used as a decorative chalk board when not in use and of course can be used to serve all sorts of savoury and sweet party dishes.
If you’re also a fan of owls around the home, take a look at the other owl finds that I have found in the Debenhams home range. I love the see no evil owls and the ceramic owl tealight holder.
How have you been bringing the seasons into your home decor this autumn?
