As well as going on days out and mini breaks during the summer holidays, we also have our fair share of “home days” just playing in our own or Nanny’s garden.
The kids loved having Ceri and Lexy home as they reminded us how fun it is to play cricket and football together again. We also love playing tennis. Often though, the kids just like playing, making up races and obstacle courses around the garden. I used to do this too with my sisters so it’s lovely to see them continue this tradition. Luckily, Marks and Spencers sent us some new school uniform sports kit and outdoor toys to have our very own sports day in the garden, which was lots of fun.
The girls are both in St David’s House in school and their colour is blue, so I ordered a twin set of blue t-shirts ready for sports day and their swimming gala. I also chose black cycling shorts for Rebecca. Caityn and Isabelle are wearing their own shorts (models own!). I also bought a new navy hoody and jogging bottoms for Caitlyn ready for outdoor games during the colder weather. I’m pleased to say that everything is good quality and washes well.
I love the Navy Mary Jane Plimsolls so much that I chose them for all of the girls. They will be great for school PE lessons. M&S also sell a good range of trainers for outdoor games lessons.
I also stocked up on bobbles and clips to keep the girls hair out of the way while they ran around- we always need lots of hair accessories ready for back to school.
Danny missed the sports day as he was in London with Sea Scouts doing lots of watersports of his own! Before he left, he chose a pair of Boys Sports Shorts. These are great and have three pockets including a zipped pocket on the back which is so useful. They also have an elasticated draw string waist for easy fitting.
I got him some new socks with Freshfeet technology as well- this always comes in handy after games!
We love our new fun outdoor toys too- a Bat and Ball set which is such fun with the bright faces and a good old fashioned Space Hopper.
Hold your own Garden Sports Day
1. Make medals, rosettes or stickers to give out as prizes.
2. Get your sports clothes and trainers on.
3. Arrange some races- egg and spoon (you can even use potatoes or ping pong balls), bean bag race, sack race (use pillowcases for younger kids and potato sacks for older children) and running races.
4. Mark the start and end of your race (use outdoor chalk, beanbags or even string).
5. Ready, steady, go and enjoy your sports day- remember it’s the taking part that counts- it’s not all about the winning!
Thank you to Marks and Spencer for sending us our sports kit and outdoor toys. All opinions are our own.
