At twelve years old and now attending secondary school, Danny has outgrown his “space themed” childhood bedroom. I’m going to be working in the next few weeks to update his bedroom for him so I’ve been on a pinning fest lately!
Follow Diary of the Evans-Crittens’s board Teen Boys Bedroom Black/Grey/Lime on Pinterest.
Colour wise we are changing from space blues to grey, black and a lime colour scheme. So the first thing we need to do is declutter and repaint the room.
We’ve ordered the new blackout blind (Andrea Midnight) and I can’t wait to put that up. I’ve thought about taking his curtain rail and curtains down but I think in the winter I’ll miss having this extra layer as in addition to the extra warmth it will also give the room more depth and cosiness.
He currently has the Ikea KURA bed. When I decided to replace it I thought about getting a higher bed with space for a settee and desk underneath. However, our ceilings aren’t very high so I actually think we’ll go back to a low single bed. I love the Ikea SVÄRTA Day-bed frame as when he makes his bed each day (ahem), he can put cushions along the side and make it into a sofa for when his friends come round.
As this means we’ll no longer have desk space under his bed I think the Norberg Wall-Mounted Drop Leaf table will make a space saving desk to do his homework. He has a big built in cupboard where his laptop and homework can be stored when the desk is down too.
He had a wardrobe at the moment and he is really short on drawer space. He hates hanging his clothes up, so I’d like to buy him a bigger chest of drawers, such as the 6 Drawer Chest from Worldstores, though I’m looking out for a more affordable version. We will then put a clothes rail and a shelf above this for his shirts and accessories.
I’ll repaint his Trofast and buy new colour storage boxes (maybe black, green and white) as he still hasn’t grown out of his LEGO!
I like this Cambridge Duvet Cover in black, grey and white from Chiltern (a bargain at £8.99 currently). They also sell arug that will coordinate well with this- the Element Canterbury rug for just £14.99.
For wall decoration, he loves these large ACDC wall stickers and he will also choose some posters.
He wants to spray paint his name (or mark!) graffiti style on his door and I’m going to chalk paint one of my spare nest of tables as a bedside table for him (we never use them as they are).
I love some funky accessories too such as a Retro Style Flip Alarm Clock and my wanderluster also needs a new globe, and Wayfair have quite a selection.
Do you have any tips for planning a teen bedroom? I’d love to hear them!
