I have been vegetarian since I began secondary school. After all these years meat free I really can’t ever imagine eating it again. When I lived in Manchester, I loved being able to go to vegan and vegetarian cafes. I came back to Pembrokeshire and missed the vegetarian choices . Even when eating in Cardiff or London, I tend to choose food places based on my kids needs rather than my diet.
All those years ago, eating out locally used to be quite difficult. My parents would always have to ring ahead and “warn” the restaurant that there would be two vegetarians in the party. Now, we can eat at all the local places and there is always at least one vegetarian option and usually more.
Finally though, things are on the up and we have our first vegan and vegetarian cafe, right here in Milford Haven. I was so excited to visit The Walnut Cafe. It is located on Charles Street opposite Todaros Hairdressers.
I went along with my sister, Jo. We found it to be a really friendly place. We both had elderflower cordial to drink-so refreshing! I tried the nut roast and Jo tried the quiche. I can’t wait to go back and try the quiche too and more different options as the menu expands. It was nice to have lots of different tastes on the plate and all the food was delicious. We had vegan carrot cake for pudding. I was too full really but had to try it!
The food is all gluten free too and you can also order nut roast and quiche takeway.
It is early days for The Walnut Cafe and I really hope they do really well. In the future I’d also love to see vegan breakfasts and burgers on the menu!
