This year Halloween has certainly given me one huge fright!
It wasn’t just the ghosts and ghouls knocking on my door scaring the living daylights out of me but the fact that Halloween 2014, has been, gone and is already over bar the Day of the Dead, Dia de Les Muertos, celebrations taking place today.
We are now in November, so near to the end of this year already!
One thing that I did notice about Halloween this year was it started early and lasted a bit longer. Also, everyone seems to join in “celebrating” this occasion now. Last week, I was standing in the chemists picking up Danny’s prescription with skeletons and bats hanging over me. My e-mail inbox was full of messages with the same subject, “No Tricks only Treats” from different companies and brands.
I do love Halloween. We also got into the spirit early when we picked our pumpkins.
Then Rebecca became a Vampire for her first Halloween Party of the year at Brownies, while Danny had his face painted at Youth Club.
A few nights later, Danny became a Zombie for his Youth Club Party.
This Monday we had a family Halloween Party at mums as we knew Danny would be at Scout Camp on actual Halloween.
Cousin Cerys was Draculaura the Cheerleader from Monster High.
Danny was a Zombie Robber. He wanted to be Jason Vorhees from Friday the 13th but sadly his hockey mask didn’t arrive in time.
Rebecca was a zombie cheerleader.
Caitlyn was a zombie girl- so she didn’t need to change her day clothes!
Izzy, well, she was dressed as a (cute) witch, but wanted Cat Make Up and insisted that she was dressed up as Belle, the pussycat.
She wasn’t very well for Halloween, she was fluey, achey and tired but wanted to come out with us and asked for make up. Once it wore off, as seen above, I didn’t reapply it as I didn’t want to upset her.
I was very original, ahem, as a witch! Danny wanted to do my facepaint so I enjoyed a relaxing five minute sit down while he greened me up. I might ask them to face paint me again when I want some peace!
There were spooky surprises all over the house.
We played games, such as Halloween Hide n’ Seek, Murder in the Dark and Wink Murder (with unintentional hilarious results as the younger girls never really understand how to play the game).
Of course, there was a bit of apple bobbing going on! Danny also organised a treasure hunt, we hunted for clues with the help of text messages until we got to the treasure- which was an acorn!
Halloween was made easier this year by a lovely hamper of Halloween Goodies from H&A. Their Halloween range was exclusive to Poundland.
The girls have loved wearing these Horrifying Hair Extensions while dressed as a vampire and cheerleader.
As neither of the kids have got their ears pierced, they have all enjoyed the stick on earrings. There were also nail stickers which look great over a dark nail colour. Then just apply clear nail polish over the top to ensure they stay on. We haven’t used our nail wraps yet, but will do that for one night as we do love The Nightmare Before Christmas.
I love the Howling Hair Bobbles and Horrid Hair Clips. As well as for fancy dress, the girls have been wearing these every day so we’ve had good use out of them.
Then Thursday night we went out Trick or Treating to the Grandparents so they would get to see Danny. We had a great night looking at old photos of Dave and his family.
When it came to actual Halloween we had to drop Danny off for his camp. It was quite like something from a horror movie as I accidentally drove on all the back country roads, in the pitch black, pouring rain and howling winds. Leaves were falling onto the windscreen and the swaying trees made spooky patterns on the road. I felt so relieved to get the girls and myself home safe. We put up our bed settee, had a hot chocolate and cwtched watching Hocus Pocus together, another great Disney film!
While we were cosy, Dave was out gigging and Danny was out on his Scout Survival Camp, sleeping in a survival bag. I am so proud of how well he does on all these experiences despite his heart condition. He always gives his all. Today he has rested on the xbox and watching DVDs to make up for it!
And now we’re into November…eek!
I hope you all enjoyed Halloween, what did you get up to?
Thank you to H&A!
