A couple of weeks ago, I enjoyed my first child free night off in a long, long time. This was so appreciated coming near the end of the Summer Holidays.
I had the chance to to sit on the train in peace, read my magazine, check my phone and just relax…
I met up with fellow Welsh Bloggers, Hannah, Jo, Leanne, Charlotte, Briley and Alice at Starbucks. Embarassingly, it has been so long since I have been into a cafe ( I’m a flask on the beach kinda lady!) that I couldn’t remember what to order! I ended up saying something like, “I’m sorry, I don’t know what to order, but I know I want some hazelnut in it, can you help?” I’m sure that brings back memories to you all of the first time you bought your nan to Starbucks! I was cringing, but anyway the nice boy (“Nan alert” again!) asked “Latte?” and I said, “Oh yes that’s it, Latte with Hazelnut!” and it was very nice indeed, but a reminder that I don’t get out of the house (or off the beach!) enough!
We went onto a place I am more familiar with, Lush Cardiff for their Special Summer Blogger Event.
If any passers by had glanced into Lush at the beginning of our event they would have seen lots of bloggers all taking photos of bath bombs, we do it every time- we can’t resist!

We were introduced to some of the newer products. I loved this Parsley Porridge Soap, it smelt so clean and good for your skin! The D’Fluff Strawberry Shaving Soap smelt delicious and was very soft and smooth- I can see me buying this very soon!
We all had mixed feelings about the Movis Facial Soap- some bloggers admitted that they would not be able to use a “bread smelling” soap. Personally, I prefer more neutral and sweeter smelling products but I would use it purely for the benefits to my skin.
I love the background story behind the soap too.
I think Dave needs some Kalamazoo to soften his beard. The other day Izzy refused to give him a kiss as “You have got a beard on you, Daddy!”
The best news of the night was Independent is back! This time it is a true jet black eyeliner with a no smudge, stay put formula. I will be reviewing this soon! I’ve had a make up free Summer and haven’t got back into the habit of wearing it again yet.
The other gorgeous colours in the Emotional Brilliance range.
I was so excited to see a copy of DANGER Cosmetics To Go. My sister and I were huge Cosmetic To Go fans. It was the only place initially where we were able to get products that hadn’t been tested on animals. When the fun, information packed catalogue/magazine would arrive we would read it from cover to cover then pick out the solid shampoos, conditioners and soap that we were buying that month. Years later, when we first saw a Lush store on the high street, our dreams were realised.
This book is now on my Christmas List if Santa is reading this!

Upstairs we were told how Lush are now “A Self Preservation Society” (Go on, sing it The Italian Job style!). More than 70% of Lush products are now Self Preserving. Their self preserving range has now increased from their solid bars and soaps over to some of their creams and liquids. We got to try the new self preserving Mask of Magnaminty, Ocean Salt and the New Charity Pot. I loved all the new versions and will definitely be choosing them over the preserved versions which are still currently available.
I also spotted this product for the first time- Vanilla Puff. My kids have asked in the past for talc when they go swimming and I don’t like to buy it for them because of the ingredients. Now I’ve found a Lush version I will be popping this into our swimming bags!
At this point we were served some refreshing Green Mint Tea and Homemade Lemon and Poppy Seed Cake from Waterloo Tea. They told us all about their Tea Rooms and I am definitely going to visit Wynham Arcade next time I am in Cardiff.
Gorilla Perfumes The Greatest Hits Collection have had a revamp and are now in glitzy glass packaging instead of the standard Lush black plastic.
My favourite is still Imogen Rose– I love the new tattoo style rose too.
I find the perfume expensive- I know it is justified by the high quality ingredients but it is too much for me – so I often stick to the more affordable solid perfume. It melts on your skin and smells beautiful.
Lush Knot Wraps are perfect for wrapping presents and doubling up as an extra gift.
We were introduced to the new Lush products including their sun protection range. I remember a few years ago searching to see if Lush sold anything like this so I am really pleased to hear that they do now. I wore their Million Dollar Moisturiser all through the Summer. It has a High SPF30 and gave a subtle shimmery glow.
I will definitely be buying Powdered Sunshine, a SPF 15 powdered sunscreen. I think it will be great to avoid a hot shiny face but also protect me from the sun- it’s great for scalps and hard to protect areas too.
We were given a bar of The Sunblock to try for ourselves. I did worry that we wouldn’t have any more sunny weather to try it but we are definitely enjoying a second Summer! We were shown how we can wash The Sunblock on. However, I prefer to just apply it directly to the skin. It melts on the skin just like Lush Massage Bars. Some people prefer to use it with Powdered Sunshine so it “sets”.
At the end of the evening I popped some Ickle Baby Bots into my basket for the kids and a lavender French Kiss Bubble Bar for me. I wasn’t very happy when my bubble bar “accidentally” fell into the kids bath but at least they smelt lovely! I was also given the self preserving Mask of Magnaminty, some samples and Waterloo Tea goodies- thank you Lush and Waterloo Tea!
It was a lovely night and I can’t wait until the next one!
