Every year we add to our tree with more homemade decorations.
This year when we found out about Lightbulbs Direct Light Bulbles Christmas Crafting Competition, it inspired us to re-use some of our old lightbulbs.
In the past, I used to make more crafts out of lightbulbs when we only used the traditional bulbs, nowadays, as we have switched to energy saving bulbs, I find they don’t need changing as often and the shape is not so suited to craft ideas.
Luckily, I managed to find one traditional bauble shaped bulb. I thought about lots of different ideas, such as covering the bulb with beads, sequins, buttons, glass paint or ribbon, but then decided to make a fun Santa or Father Christmas character for our tree.
I drew a quick design on the bulb with permanent marker. Then Izzy and I started painting our bulb. Once dry, we tied a ribbon around the metal part of the light bulb. I then covered the knot with some red spotty washi tape, which makes a cute Santa hat.
We hung it up on our tree, I said “Look Izzy! Who have we made?”
She said, “Daddy!”
I hope you can tell that is is meant to be Father Christmas! She now keeps pointing to our tree and saying, “Daddy is on the tree!”
If you are inspired to make a Christmas decoration out of an old lightbulb or bulbs, then make sure to enter it into the competition above. The prize is £100 John Lewis Vouchers and it is open until 26th December 2013.
Good luck!
This is my entry into the Lightbulbs Direct Christmas Bulble Competition.
