I mentioned in a previous post the danger to the sealife that the trawlers’ abandoned fishing nets can pose. But unfortunately the problem goes far deeper than that.
Our seas are becoming increasing polluted with plastic. We all need to stop or drastically cut down the amount of plastic that we use. The “Say No To Plastic Bags” Campaigns over the recent years have been quite successful (aided by the 5p Carrier bag Charge) and far more people are now using their own reusable non plastic bags. But, we still have a long way to go regarding packaging and other plastic items such as toys.
One company is taking responsibility for their packaging. Ecover aim to create a fully sustainable and recyclable plastic that will minimise the use of raw materials in our bottles. You can find more about this here.
I know it can be difficult to buy environmentally friendly products all the time. I generally buy them until I reach a week which lasts longer than the paycheck and then I resort to the value “bargains” forgetting the high cost to the environment.
Ecover have produced this infographic to remind us why we need to start using a sustainable and recyclable plastic NOW.
