Sometimes, as if by fate, someone writes just the Blog Post that you needed to read.
Late Tuesday night, I published a post about Danny. In “Mending the Heart, Tending the Soul” I esplained that although we have been looking after him physically, his heart is doing well and he is in good health; I felt that we have been unwittingly neglecting the emotional side of living with a heart condition.
I knew I needed to do something positive to help Danny but I wasn’t sure what that something was.
This morning, I saw that Anya Harris had published a new post on her new blog, “The Healer”. I clicked to read it as her blog is so pretty and her posts are so calming and helpful. Very helpful today in fact.
The title of the post was, “Healing Children“.
The post reassured me in many ways. It reaffirmed for me that it is natural for children to have ups and downs too. This is so obvious, but all we really want as parents is for our children to be happy, so it can be upsetting to see your child upset and we often blame ourselves.
Anya also tells us that “Children are awesomely susceptible.”
This reminds me that I am not too late. I am still able to heal Danny, he will be responsive.
Following Anya’s suggestion, I then read The Loving Parent ‘s post about spontaneously ‘doing an accidental meditation’ with her son, Toby.
Every night I used to do meditations with Danny. Our bedtime routine started, after bathtime, with him reading to me, then I would read a chapter of a longer book to him and we would finish with a meditation to help him relax to go to sleep.
I used to make them up or use Relax Kid’s Books as a guide. They are lovely books that I have used in school and at home. We have Aladdin’s Magic Carpet and The Wishing Star.
I realised that we haven’t used these meditations since last July.
I don’t know why we dropped them from our routine.
We didn’t mean to and I will be using them again from tomorrow.
I know that meditation alone will not be enough, I have arranged meetings and have other strategies in place.
But, I have been reminded of a positive soul healer that was working for us before and will work for us again.
Thank you, Anya!
Hello Claire, Thank you for directing me to this. I'm so glad the post reminded you of you (!) – and that it has helped. It's good to see that you have a healer you can turn to, too. Danny sounds like he's in the best possible hands. Do stay in touch and let me know if I can do anything else to help 🙂 xx
Why not put a link to this post on the comments of the original one, Claire xx
What a lovely blog post – your son is lucky to have a Mum who see's him in such a rounded way. Don't worry about the fact that you were focussing on the physical for a while, I think that we can only do so much at a time.I'm going to check out those books you've mentioned as my 7yo has enjoyed hypnotherapy apps on an old phone for a few years to help with sleep and we've been recently practicing with relaxation and grounding techniques. It would be really interesting to have a book that did the same.
