Those Nights before Christmas: Settling into a New Bedtime Routine

Joules Pyjama and robe bedtime review

I feel like a broken record but Christmas is a very busy time of year.  I've fallen back into the habit of staying up late working as it's the only time I get to myself.  I'm so aware that a good nights sleep is needed for good health but struggle to fit the hours in (I'm wondering if this sounds familiar to you too?).

I always remember the old saying "an hours sleep before midnight is worth two after".  Therefore, one of my winter resolutions is to get to bed before midnight each night- but this is no mean feat to achieve!  Once I pick the kids up from school the time just flies.  I take them to clubs, oversee homework, feed them tea, clear up from tea (groan- this is my least favourite part of the day), make sure uniforms and bags are ready for the next day, then run baths, read bedtime stories and put them to bed.

Once, that is all done my time is mine and I open the laptop and get to work.  I used to work until the early hours of the morning, then collapse into bed, but my new aim is to get off the laptop at 10pm at the latest so I have time to reintroduce a bedtime routine like I used to enjoy all those years ago.  Ideally, we should start to wind down from 9pm but I'm easing slowly into that routine.

Next it's time to slip into some comfortable nightwear  to really get me in the mood for bed.  Joules sent me their Porcelain Petal Astrid Jersey Pyjama Set and Navy Floral Rita Dressing Gown for me to relax in at home.

They are so luxurious and colourful- such a treat to put on at night.  The pyjamas make great loungewear too and I'm thankful to have a new pair to wear that I'm not ashamed to still be wearing when I open the door to the deliveryman with yet more unexpected Christmas deliveries (I'm not the only one to be caught out by those early Sunday morning deliveries, am I?).

The pyjamas are really easy to wear with the style of traditional pyjamas but in a more relaxed jersey finish.  It feels great to treat myself to "wind down time" after my bath- I spend this reading books or watching TV in my pjs, such bliss.

I'm loving having time to read again.  I randomly picked up a new book recently and it turned out to be about many topics that my family and I have been through in our lives  recently.  It felt like I was meant to read this book and to pass it onto my mum and sisters, so I'll blog about it in more detail soon.

And the dressing gown... oh, I love this dressing gown so much.  It's really soft and cuddly.  When we had the cold spell last week I wore this over my clothes at home during the day- it was heaven! It's warmed up since so this is for post bath use only again now as I actually feel quite warm in the evenings but I'll definitely be getting double the use again during the next frosty weather.

There are even matching slippers available if you need some.  I usually buy new pyjamas for me and the kids to wear Christmas morning.  This year, as these are my new favourite pair they will be my Christmas pyjamas instead!  Perfect for opening presents in!

Now to get some sleep before midnight...

What time is your bedtime, do you need a new bedtime routine?
